I figured this needed some clarification and GD didnt seem like the place to put it... So Im gonna put it here.

SRA is not intended to be in opposition or competition with SRF.

Now let me clarify that by telling you some things. First, I have spent my entire life with what seems like a terrible affliction at times. I remember everything I read with distressing clarity. Cereal boxes, ads, books, pamphlets, magazines, and everything else written in the english language with encyclopedic recall. Kharra's favorite vent pastime is to spring in Vent with some obscure word he read somewhere and see if I know the definition. Im sure over the last year or two he's got me a couple times with words he learned in Chem, but they have been few and far between.

In my mid 20s, going to college, I discovered a use for my hyper attention for words. I became a researcher, specializing in informations technology focused on the medical field because I loved medical terminology and coding and neat and tidy information makes my toes curl.

/fade to back fast forward to the discovery of gaming.

I met SRF before I met Fly. Like everyone else, I was a member at Tavern first but SRF was so full of newbs asking about the game and how it worked. I figured out what I really liked about gaming was the discovery. New gears, how things worked, what is coming next, etc. And here was a small (then) group of ppl that wanted to know. Heaven.

Why is my post count half what others' of my longevity is? Because it's the questions that I stick around for, the one thing my brain is designed to do. Ryoko is also a much loved and trusted friend, my former Unionmate and hands down one of the nicest guys I have ever met. Fly is probably lucky I met him first; he is the person who actually introduced me to Ryoko.

As SRF grew it changed. A lot of the time, someone asks a question and 50 people start screaming about search. People post inane posts about how so and so is a douchebag, or Im quitting, or look what I can do or whatever. I skip all those and look for the questions. When I see them, Im thinking, "Does this need a guide or something?" (Your guide section is scary and offends my need for organization) I dont often address any other kind of post, but I read every single one.

In the beginning, SRA was the TE clan site and I poured my need for information gathering and dissemination into it. =.= We exceded our bandwidth within 2 months and hundreds of ppl wanted to sign up at our clan forum. So SRA was born out of that. It is my personal place to indulge my love of information, my need to tinker with the software and graphics, my personal expression of mental freedom and a repository for my clogged neurons.

I designed it to discourage casual conversation. The guides are tidy and neat. The Gallery is in beautiful rows of categorized screenies. When I first talked Fly and Beaver into getting it started for me, I didnt know anything at all about a vB forum. Now I have picked their brains until I dont need their help very often and moved on to doing things without them. (They are both tired of hearing me say, "Fly/Beaver, how do I......?" anyways)

Yes, I want members, of course. I need those questions and people to give focus to my little talent. Im not trying to "steal" SRF's members nor do I want it's community there (not because the community here is bad, it just isnt focused on my goal). I am proud of the work I have done there and of course, I am not doing it so I alone can look at it.

I also know that the way I speak isnt normal but I hope I explained that as well (you would too if you had a dictionary at your fingertips).

So, to sum it all up in a simple analogy... SRF is Ryoko's baby. I love Ryoko and his baby and have been pinching it's cheeks and making goo goo noises at it since it was born. It's growing up now and doesnt really like Auntie nightbloom doing that as much as it used to. Beaver, Fly and I had our own baby and OMG we are so proud of it, we are still counting it's toes and fingers and cooing over it. We stiill love Ryoko's baby a lot, but cant help thinking our own baby is sooooo much cuter because that is how parents are. We also annoy ppl by trotting out pictures of our baby at the slightest provocation.... again, that is a parental thing.

I hope I made this all a bit clearer.

I don't think anyone ever thought that was your intention. It was not my intention anyway. SRA is full with tidy guides and stuff. That is brilliant.

imo. Your doing a great job, keep it up and don't worry about these things. I think Ryoko doesnt mind it either, SRF stays SRF.. With a lot of people.

i'd just be careful what people are posting in other threads, with links to your forums for guides and stuff (see Behemoth). Members of these forums made and contribute to those guides thus they support this forum. And its not nice when someone posts a link to your forums, i just see that as disrespectful.

well yeah its not a massive issue, but i think as the question was asked within the SRF community and the resources are readily available in the community it shud stay within the community. These resources are provided by SRF members and its unecessary to post a link that leads people away and dismisses the entire point of a community and what it exists for to begin with. its almost like recruting at the front door!

im sure NB knows this isnt exactly a nice thing to do and it echoes a little from the artwork incident a few weeks back.

I see no reason to post a help link after the question has been answered. For chuckles? Sure why not, but redundancies stand out.

@roflcopter

I don't see anything wrong with linking to a SRA-hosted guide as long as the person who post the link clearly state that the the credit goes to SRA and whoever posted there.

I mean this is the world wide web, as soon as you put something on the internet you really can't complain people making links to you.

Well what kind of a thoughtless jerk would post a link as a punctuation, honestly.

I see no reason to keep arguing on my end, I've said what I wanted to say and so have you for the most part, this isn't my forum and therefore I retract whatever statement may have offended you/compelled you to write this on my end because it deals with something not mine to argue with.

:D And that was the thread I thought roflcopter was talking about. I didnt even know about the other one. How is it my fault? I didnt post it. Is the problem with SRA or (more likely) with Behemoth, roflcopter? If it's a helpful guide that contains relevant and accurate information, then what's the difference? If you go look on my Unique map thread, many people posted maps they thought were more accurate or just different. That is good, more information is better.

...I ...don't ...recall... Wow... awwwwkwarrrrrd....

To be honest, if the creator of wikipedia came to our forums and started spamming wikipedia links for everything, I think I may have a few choice words.

I'm sure you're beyond having jerks like us bother you, but as I said above, not my forum, you explained well to the community, and that's that. Good luck on your 'baby', and continue helping people whether I like it or not ^~^
