Karma System > Post Count

I pm'd this to SG and Ryoko a while back, if implemented i think this could combat a lot of the problems that plague SRF as it currently stands.

Something i always thought about when posting here...Post Count. Although its a good thing and it indicates a persons 'dedication' to the forum, it does nothing to combat needless spamming and people blatantly trying to up their post count status.

I (used to) play Battlefield 2 a lot, and i use the http://www.bf2s.com forums. Over there they use a 'karma' system. No post count is involved but karma is distributed via the forum members (there is a daily limit on what karma each member can distribute). The beauty i found with karma is that it encourages people to post useful info and not to be a total asshat on the forums, so say i found something useful that was posted or i agreed whole heartedly with someone, i would +1 karma them.

The admins and mods there are able to see all karma activity and are able to keep a close eye on 'karma padding' (where members collude and exchange karma to boost there forum status etc...). They used to operate a -1 karma option too but severe abuse soon saw an end to that

I know it could be difficult to implement that here but im certain it would enhance the forums and create a more positive community, id like to know what you think about it.

Edit: bf2s.com is down for a while, loaz.

referring to this post
Karma can turn into a popularity contest. It's been discussed a few times and not implemented.

Someone made the commet that they are smart enough to figure out who is full of it and who isn't for themselves. I couldn't agree more.
n i agree with the quote. imo, karma system can go bad just as good
as a postcount system. n people know who the valuable posters n who
the spammers are ;)

With the amount of imbeciles we have atm, I'm not sure a karma system is the way to go...

Also, you may want to pm ryoko.

I've never seen that system respected/useful.
I see nothing wrong with just removing post count all together.

I don't see why people even care about post counts. It's not like it gives you any direct privileges or something.

Well its the thing about first impressions, generally if you people give two distinct advices you generally trust the one with more posts, it just makes 'logical' sense to your brain although the one with more posts may not know as much.

You : 24.25 posts per day
Me : 10.19 posts per day

and il let you quote your "non spam" posts blacky because im growing tired of your blahblah bullshit, quit lying to your self what you post is spam or causes spam you hardly ever have an idea of your own usually you quote someone else and pretty much repeat what they have said finally you think everyone is against you so when someone is said thats even slightly related to you, you go all defense like now.

what cin said was sarcastic you can even tell :!:

Ok so we ended up with another BF discussion.....i personally and honestly think Karma is the way forward for these forums. As long as it was implemented correctly and monitored then karma abuse should be a rare occurance. In any case it would more than likely turn peoples motivation into positive rather than negative cos they would be tryin to earn karma by being helpful and nice to people.
