Bot advertisements

Theres been a lot of ads for bots and hacks. I keep banning users and they keep comming.
I've banned anyone from walla.com or whatever it was.
I dont always see them quick enough, so I will be giving a few choice people the power to delete threads.
This should help curb the problem.

I did not say moderators; nor do I understand peoples hype about 'moderation'.
Main Entry: mod·er·a·tor
Function: noun
1 : one who arbitrates : MEDIATOR
2 : one who presides over an assembly, meeting, or discussion: as a : the presiding officer of a Presbyterian governing body b : the nonpartisan presiding officer of a town meeting c : the chairman of a discussion group
3 : a substance (as graphite) used for slowing down neutrons in a nuclear reactor

yes but with moderators 24-7 this thread would not have gone all day.
I understand there only real job is to keep people inline

Yes but the minute you call someone 'moderator' it means they are powered over other people, and others get jealous.
People with power to delete or move threads gets the job done just as good.

only you should have the power to delete but with moderators you need trusted people. they can ask like i have but it all comes down who do you trust with the welfare of your forum and who won't betray your trust am i right?

Deleting/moving/editing threads is all a moderator DOES anyway, so what's the difference

The difference, and how others 'act'
can clearly be seen here.

Haha, hence the reason I never visit off-topic sections
People who will bitch about something so trivial will always find something else to pick at anyway. Another forum that I visit daily has a policy of "no public discussion about moderation", and it works really well. Any complaints are dealt with in private where they belong, and questioning mods publically results in post deletion/thread locking.

What about adding a "report to moderator" function?
3dbuzz's forums has a small biohazard symbol on each post (visible only when logged in, I think) and it can be used to report a thread for various reasons (trolling, off-topic, offensive, etc.). Maybe there's a plugin for that already, but it would be a nice tool for the users, especially if you have covert forum mods / whatevers.

Now this I
will volunteer for.
I love seeing tidy forums. Especially when I tidied them.

I'm banking on the fact that it won't be a typical Moderator role, in that I won't have to sort out conflicts and the like. I'd rather strictly be a forum janitor so I don't have to impose myself on people here.

I'd love to be able to get rid of double-posts, bot advertisement threads, and perhaps move threads to correct areas. But I certainly won't want to remove posts for things like arguing, or off-topicness, as such things can be contested and argued and end up making me feel like a meanie.

So... if it's strictly a janitor you're after, sign me up.
