yep, i had this happen before. at first i thought it was people spamming links,
but then i noticed that it happened on virtually EVERY site. certain words are
auto-linked to some stupid adsite. it's just adware, get rid of it like any other
similar crap.

this is a good lesson as to why people should get/buy spyware scanners with realtime protection, or have an antivirus with spyware protection...
good examples are:
Norton Internet Securty (NOT Free

lol)
Microsoft Defender Beta 2
Spyboy S&D

This comp has got
McAfee (Full Works)
Spybot S&D
& Ad-Aware SE Personal
This comp very rarely gets a prob and if it does i can sort it mostly with ease whether its software or hardware but i you must be right that my mates comp has probely got spyware so ill tell him to scan it and all

Well I could recommend Kaspersky Antivirus, cause' it's much more accurate than McAffe, Norton and Co. Adding 2 that it's cheap

.
I use Maxthon browser cause' it's got an add-blocker and more options against all kind of Spyware (I love it !

)
I u got more problems visit this
site describe ur problem in the right forum and u'll surely get help !

Demarthal, that adware you have is tricky and very dangerous. No, sorry its not as easy as a cookie. It sometimes appears if you boot into safe mode and look at the task manager. My brother who is a certified PCJock tried to get rid of the problem on my old notebook and took him 5 hours straight of sifting through and finding all the files associated with it. It requires extensive seaching through the registry to totally delete. But almost all the time you have to reformat your hard drive and reinstall windows to get rid of it (make sure you change your IP also).
You may not have the same thing:
Symtoms: Using another web browser and having the popups appear in IE windows
Sparse popups, only once in a while, but the same advertisers appear often
