Deleting Posts Instead of Locking

I think it would be much better to delete a person's off-topic posts instead of completely locking a thread.
The main reason being, someone that "wants a high post count" can easily do so without much retribution. The topic will just be locked if it's exceeding the imaginary limit to off-topic posts and the off-topic fiends will keep their posts.
If the posts are just deleted and the person/people that were off-topic were warned, it will deter them from going off-topic and allow the people that wanted to speak on the subject to speak on it.
I realize that there are places where some form of off-topic
ism is allowed, funny, and relevant, but I'm referring to the mindless posts of some "spammers."
Just an insight on how to better this forum, in my opinion.

I do agree with the fact that it's bothersome and unfair when a thread is locked, since the very, very few people that did stay ontopic are also punished by this act. However, despite of the anti spam rule, it seems to be a new trend to derail every thread on this forum, and nearly every thread contains an overload of off-topic posts.
Since it's too much to handle, the only actions we take at the moment is a thread lockdown, sometimes the removal of posts, and in severe cases a temporary ban.
I've said it before and I will say it again: Make use of the report button. Even if it's about something as common as thread derailing. The sooner we can take action, the bigger the chance that the thread will remain open. Instead of a thread lockdown, it can be cleaned up if it's not too far gone, and if certain forum members keep performing this trick, we can make them stop one way or another.
We acknowledge the problem and we are willing to do something about it, but we can't see everything.

I do it sometimes (read: once) but it's so much easier clicking 1 button to lock :p
Also, certain people tend to get very, veeeerrryyy upset when their posts just disappear cause they come up with some tripe about censoring. but I'll keep it in mind

Personally, i dont think posts should ever be deleted, and only edited if really neccessary.

Replying to spambots is another way to help derailing a topic and thus getting it locked faster. It's fine by me, it takes less time to throw a lock on it than if I have to sort everything out.

I dunno wbout these spams, but they sure are no-lifer.
Btw, there are some threads that start off with good intention....and shouldnt be locked. However, we can always start a new thread, so locking a thread doesnt matter to me.

Just ban those 'SPAMMERS'. I think posts should be deleted only if they are an insult to someone or have some 'bad' words in it.

Mods have good reason to lock threads, if you repost a locked thread you're stay here may come to a sudden end.

If I recall correctly, there is a thread called "Transformer 3".
http://www.silkroadforums.com/viewtopic.php?f=12&t=129050I am a big Transformer fan. If I am to remake this locked thread again, I just want to host a gathering platform for all Transformer fans and not to continue those off topic debates.
Thats why I feel that it is abit unfair to lock the thread just because sometimes people here likes to do off topic debates. However, I dont really think that is much a problem because I can always start a new one since my intention is just to build a fan thread.
Edit: Just saying =)

In that case it's fine. But if you're reopening a thread that was locked because of the OP or the content of the thread itself baiting trolls then you'll be in trouble.
