It appears the move to the new server has been a success. Please let me know if there are any problems, either with a PM or an email to
ghan.04@gmail.com. Thanks!

Please don't make use of
the navigation menu on the left side as you'll be logged out. Sorry for the inconvenience.
EDIT: Signature editing/previewing is no longer working for me, can anyone confirm they have the same problem? - Apparently it's just me, then. Thanks for the help.

EDIT2: Returning to
http://www.silkroadforums.com seems to log me out each time.

I wish I knew, Ryoko and Ghan are currently looking into it, I can't do anything besides passing them links that might be helpful, as I can't dig in the code. Not that I would know how to fix it if I had access rofl.
I can only ask you to be patient and deal with it for now, and should you encounter new problems, please report them in this thread. Should you have trouble with replying, try to quote or start a new thread in Site Discussion, and I'll merge it into this thread.
Thanks in advance, and sorry for the inconvenience.

Over the years we've had much luck with server moves.
Not so lucky this time. Ghan and I are all over it. I know its annoying but the root of the problem is as such.
When you use a link on the left, or direct URL it doesn't include the "&sid=" part of the URL. It never has, but its never a problem. Your session data is stored locally and in your cookies.
This is not happening. Therefore, when you use a URL without the "&sid=" your session is lost and your forced to log in.
Signatures? Seem to be working, as I have edited mine. Use the links at the top navigation; they include the "&sid="
Whats more odd, is that two boards work, and one does not. =(

The good side to this: less nonsense threads in GD.
The bad side: less threads overall?

Useing some echo statements, I had the board spit out some of its variables and found that
1. There is a cookie, written properly.
2. That &sid= is stored in that cookie, properly.
3. The board wasn't reading the cookie properly, forcing people to use &sid=
I hack-fixed the session.php file to bypass some of PHPBB's code and manually accept the cookie data.
I appear, to stay logged in. Yet, I see no users online, which has me curious o.O
Some other notes
3.06 version board (
http://www.aftersixraiding.net) works fine on this server.
3.04 version board (silkroadforums.com, maliciouskt.net) did not work
Opening functions.php for both versions, it seems the code for getting the cookie data was revamped; IE solved in 3.06. The big puzzle tho... why does it work on one server, and not another?
/looks over at Ghan
I believe its because on the old server, register_globals was turned on.
On this server, it is confirmed off, by phpinfo();
register_globals boolean
Whether or not to register the EGPCS (Environment, GET, POST, Cookie, Server) variables as global variables.
As of ยป PHP 4.2.0, this directive defaults to off.
Please read the security chapter on Using register_globals for related information.
Please note that register_globals cannot be set at runtime (ini_set()). Although, you can use .htaccess if your host allows it as described above. An example .htaccess entry: php_flag register_globals off .
cpinney wrote:i am not sure if it moved fully up to date, some of my newer posts are missing.
The only way to avoid *some* post casualties is to shut the board down for a day, change over the name server, waiting a day for it to propogate across the net, then switching on the new board.
