Posting requirements?

there have been a lot of spam bots roaming around and i heard somewhere that the posting requirement was lowered. i don't know about everyone else but the spam bots posting porn/drugs/etc is quite annoying. i'm sure its a nightmare for mods with it being constant and all.
anyways i have an idea that might help! if there was a system where you first have to post in a section meant for new members to introduce themselves. where you make a thread called "hi im new" and post about yourself then you can post everywhere else. to avoid spam bots they must be approved by a mod to post anywhere else in the forums (dose not really needed to be added because spam bots most likely wont go threw making a introduction thread).
this is just an idea on how to help remove the annoying spam bots. what does everyone think? i think it could work but implementing it might take some time.

Why? Not that I think any different, but it's annoying how you say no explanation.

Imagine 200 new member everyday, every single month..
that requires a lot of work and time for a mod. lulz

Mods have too much work on their hand allready. Having to approve a hundred people every day would only add to that.
Banning an IP adress is easyer.

like i said

it is not needed but would help with spam bot prevention.
also ip bans are ineffective because there is so many ways around it.

I noticed there seemed to be a direct correlation with spambots, and the lifted posting requirements.
Im having huge problems with this as well, on our guild site. I get about 5 a day, and they make anywhere from 14-28 posts each bot.
Having to "have" posts to "make" posts is a huge deterrent / pain in the ass. Most would come to site discussion to post instead as well. Then you have half ass posts around the forum just to get enough post count that people can make one.
I'll think about it some more.
The best thing you guys can do is NOT REPLY to the spam posts. We can delete them and all posts in one button click. But when people reply, the replies stay so the spam topic stays and moderators have to delete them individually.

They've been in about every section.

They post pretty much everywhere.
If you see a spambot, I kindly ask you to report it, and leave the thread be, to avoid people from clicking those links. Common sense isn't for everyone.
Replying in such a thread is futile, because I delete the entire thread once I'm finished with its creator.

the spam bots are really disturbing i would like for something to be done. what would happen if a little kid happens to click on one of these (like kirk)? or even someones school checks a students history and finds porn on this site? i know there is just not clicking it but it shouldn't be there in the first place. something should be done hope you guys figure something out.

At least restrict images until a certain number of posts to avoid that shit.

I mean... if they click the one thread labeled "Cute Asian in Nurses Uniform Bondage with Real Life Tenticles, Actually Cute Face without skank make up, full nude, first time anal XXXXXX" you get the point, well they shouldn't. If they're that curious, then we can't do anything, the power of google is on their side.

well then at least if there is a posting requirement it would be less of a hassle for the mods because they wont need to lock/delete 30+ topics.

There is a posting requirement, however we have to balance making the job easier for mods and making it not a hassle to join this forum, a difficult job in itself.

Perhaps it's time for some new moderators. We used to have a ton of moderators, now we only have like 7. Adding more would lighten y'alls work load while making this forum less of a hassle to join.

All the comments on that thread said spam bots dropped to 0. The OCR script that the spambots use to fill out the image verification can't seperate the letters from the custom images.
Some comments said, after a while there is 1-2 images the spambot can get past - they are default images distributed with the mod. It is suggested the spambot authors would start accommodating these common used default images, so use your own, unique images for best results.
The problem is, my FTP accounts for all sites havnt worked since the server move. Summary: I cant do shit right now =/
