Farewell, SRF...

Post by SuicideGrl »

Greetings, all.

I don't want to make this into a big production, but I feel there are some things that need to be said, so please bear with me.

When I first started posting on SRF, I was a normal forum user. Ryoko, the forum's founder, was a good friend and a member of my union, so when SRF started to gain popularity and really expand, I offered my services to him to help out if he needed me. He made me a "mod", which at the time bore the title "Forum Helper", and I locked things, moved threads to the appropriate sections, edited out flames, etc. As time went on and Ryoko drifted off toward the other aspects of his life, he extended to me the honor of being the Admin here, a duty into which I launched myself full-force. SRF was, even then, dedicated to preserving the legitimacy of SRO, and I pledged to continue that as best I could.

As Admin I was responsible for the implementation of many policies and standards, some of which were unpopular and brought me much criticism. But, with the help and support of my ever-amazing staff, I didn't flinch away from the hard decisions, and everything that I did here was designed for the greater good of our community. I felt confident at the end of every day that we were doing the right thing, even if it meant upsetting the balance of things in the process.

SRF was, for me, a labor of love. I dedicated an enormous amount of time, energy, and fervor into making this place THE PLACE to go for info about the game and to reach out to other members of the community. I like to think that we succeeded in that, and that we continue to do so now, as the game and its community strive forward. For me, the love I had for SRF came from two sources; it started out from my love of the game, but it developed into a love for SRF, its people, and its ideals. I still love this place and its people intensely; but I no longer hold any love for the game itself. A long time ago I told myself that if that ever happened, I would walk away; a leader who is not involved in the currents of those he leads is powerless and futile. I failed myself in that regard; I have been gone from this place for a long time without ever really having the integrity to come out and say it. I guess I was unwilling to let go of the reins of what I had worked so hard to build.

But now it's time to rip the band-aid off. I love SRF, I love you guys, and I already miss this place terribly, even though I have not been here much in spirit for quite a while now. Something about really, truly leaving makes it much more painful than casually fading into the background. But it's what must be done.

Effective immediately, I hereby resign my post as Administrator of Silkroad Forums.

It's been a hell of a ride. If anyone ever wants to get in touch with me, many people here have my contact info. I would love to hear from you. Thank you all for the honor of leading and representing you for the past nearly 4 years. I cannot express the gratitude I feel, and the sadness that leaving you brings. Good luck :)

As much as i would like to say some harsh things following the beginning of banning exposed bots which section you created. I'd keep it to myself.

Seems SRF is officially drying up, no oldies left they've either been banned or left because of the policys between exposed botters and private servers.

Bye~

I keep a lot of my opinions to myself, especially my opinions on the new policies made that I have never agreed with or the people who run this forum. Even though I was never a fan of yours, I wish you the best. Good luck and take care.
 Moving to Aion Online. Goodbye, Silkroad. You won't be missed.

Yes but, it could of been prevented with a few amendments to rules. Made and remained the same by an inactive admin and made enforced my mods.

I agree. Forum started going down the drain since exposed botters section, that really shouldnt have been implemented. It was added with good intentions, but brought many bad things.

@cpinney yes, he was inactive, not only 2 months, even more, but he didnt resigned, now he did. It means something to people.

The forum isn't dying, you guys are all just making something out of nothing, because apparently apathy is pretty cool. He was inactive before and now he's just saying he's gone; what does it matter?

To sui,
Thank you for all you've done here, you and the entire staff have been great in making an awesome community at SRF. I always have these forums open when I'm online. Good luck with whatever you do in life!

Wow another oldie gone... well good luck and all. Thanks for all you've done

With the last of the legits all moving on, switching, quiting, and overall fading in numbers, wonder just how much time will be left for this forum. :( Hope the remaining staff will be able to keep this forum going.

Instead of good-bye though, I prefer sayonara. You never know when you will meet ppl again

SG

When I left SRO some years back, you and the other staff did an excellent job helping shape and build this community. It is hard to say what would have become of SRF if people didn't hold such a passion for the game we loved, and the people who made that game enjoyable. Without the hard work of its staff and contribution from its members, this forum wouldnt be everything it is.

Peoples lives are always changing. Though you might not wear the Admin tag any longer, you won't be forgotten at SRF.

Take care, J.

People have been saying that for years. Its an element of nostalgia. Or seeing someone you liked get banned and thinking its all going downhill.
