Bumping ancient topics.

How about applying the warning level to this shit too.

Unless there's a legitimate and constructive reason to bumping the ancient thread, in which case one could also just create a thread LINKING to the ancient thread, there's no need to do so. Bumping old threads just creates confusion, accomplishes absolutely nothing, and is just irritating.

-Define a reasonable time limit on what is considered ancient.
-Define a time period for which one could be banned.
-Define a "legitimate and constructive reason."

Agreed. Hate people whom bum topics which are like 3 years old, and bump them for no reason other to be an asshole.

I think they already get warned. But it would be better to make an announcment so everyone knows.

I strongly agree.
viewtopic.php?f=9&t=8

I did that to prove a point and see if it would be locked or deleted, and it was, which i was impressed with.

Now if only every ressed thread ended that way, instead of bumping old and normally obsolete information.

Or, just prune threads older than 6 months old, so they cant be ressed.

I don't see anything wrong with Bumping old topics. Maybe it was a fun/cool/great topic, that just got lost in the swimming mess of topics.

People bump an old topic:
Smart person will think "nice, he used search"
Dumb person will post " omg major bump!!!"

So people encorage to use search and at same to just make new topics ?

What if the person isn't trying to be an asshole? What if it was something that needed attention again or someone had the same problem? Then there would be multiple topics about the same thing.

Typos -.-;;

Why not just deal with it on a case-by-case basis? It's pretty easy to see who's being an asshole about it.

Point being, I don't see it as being so serious of a problem to warrant guidelines about it.

Yes, then it would be allright, i'd think that'd be obvious.

Anyways, let me ask you this, when's the last time you've seen a topic 'necro'd' (Curse the person whom came up with that, must have been an idiot), for good use?

I can't remember one case since i registered in 2006.

I can't remember any since there are periods on srf where I am absent for months, but it's always a possibility. Yes, CrimsonNuker's zit topic was ressed but I had never seen it before and I thought it was pretty funny. Sometimes old funny/helpful/memorable things that come back are nice. And as I said, leaving topics open helps to prevent old ones being remade or topics that could still be of help to people. Now, if you're ressing a topic just to be an asshole then a warn would seem appropriate. Other then that you can just ignore it, no one is making you click it and read the newest post.

Hmm an example. New member, quit sro but still wants to be a part of the community, mainly OTL.
This would be an example thread - viewtopic.php?f=76&t=102219
The person even if the topic was really old could still post, he's new and wants to add his opinion etc. It wouldn't be hurting anything. Though I do understand the whole "If an asshole" posts thing. But I see that as something different.

People get pissed if they bump an old topic, people still get pissed if they make a new topic about it.

*sigh* People already get warned if they res a topic just to get their post count up.
