help stop new people from asking same questions

Post by Jstar1 »

when new people make a username on SRF, include a message to them at the end of their account creation that they need to use the guides first, then post. And not ask the same questions 50 people have asked before.

im seriously losing my patience with addressing noobs who are too lazy to click a couple links to get what they want. Especially the question "Rogue subclass bard or cleric".

first, it will be really hard to find out which new members have or have not read through all the guides. the questions and answers topic isnt there for nothing. we, the older members of srf know our way around the boards and can easily link newbies to the right guides.

second, you can do something about it. ignore the topics in which you think these "stupid newb questions" are posted. its easy to see what a topic is about.

That is what the Forums are for...for people to ask and ask and ask and ask...

I agree with most of the replies. This is something that happens in all forums, and it will continue to happen as long as there are new registrations. I personally find it fulfilling when I can help someone who was not able to find the correct guide, is new to the forums and doesn't know how to search, or is simply new to the game and knows nothing about it :)

Changing Jstar's idea, would it be possible to add one of these?

Except, instead of what it has now, say to check the guides before posting?

its a pretty good idea, but trash mine. If that happens, then new users will feel intimidated by the forums. Its like "do this way or get out" when they first make their account. new people dont need warnings when they start a new account

Give them a grace period. For me, I usually wait till they have 100+ posts because I think it probably took me that long to even realize there is a Guides & Tutorials section. After that, just ignore idiot questions, or, if you're feeling helpful, find the link for them and advise them to use search next time. (Which is a wasted effort tbh.)

@below
I was being nice, I actually told them there were links in there. =)
