To add these kinds of things, you need to install third party 'mods' people have written. (birthdays, extra profile fields, etc)
You gotta 'alter' about 10-20 of the forums files to add them in. I've already changed 5 or so to add the look, and flags and scripts to this site.
I wouldn't adding this stuff. But the minute I update to the latest version, ALL CHANGES ARE LOST and I'd have to do it all over again from scratch.
So... lets skip it. And be happy with (most) of what PHPBB gives us. That way, I can regularly update without fear.
Things like template (appearance) changes and other petty stuff, no problem. I will still lose them when I update, but no biggie.
PHPBB comes out with new stuff each version, and more features. Maybe in time. ^__^
