Downtime and Features - Read first

Post by Ryoko »

Downtime / Chat / Screenshots / Profile / Search

The server was under constant load. Most likely being attacked.

We don't know for sure yet.

Anything that uses a high ammount of queries has been 'unhooked'.

Unfortunately, 'profile' being offline means you can't register.

But there are many sites sharing the server, and I had to take some precautions.

Please wait it out till the higher powers figgure out exactly whats happening.

Happy posting.

Ya, I was pretty worried about why I couldn't access profile. Anyways, I hope the site gets fixed soon ^^.

In the meantime, use Google to do a site-search if you guys need to find a certain topic or whatever.

Type in: site:silkroadforums.com (and search term after).

Some features offline again.

We were maxing the mysql connections and the server was under incredible load.

Why this is happening is still unclear.

But we are working on it with the other site owners.

Yea, that happens to me sometimes too. But thats maybe because of all these things that are happening on the server are making some changes, in the loading time... just a theory :P

Thats exactly the problem.

And we think we figgured it out.

Google doing a deep crawl on both SRF and TH.NET at the same time this week sent MySQL memory usage and connections through the roof. Then the statistics software for the forum likes to run at the same time -.- then the email handler........ etc

When the site doesnt load for hours, its because the server is under like 90% load and crunching.

We've reduced the max connections, added RAM, and tweaked the stat settings.

We'll see if the problem goes away now. Can't afford to have the site down.
