Oh man, this takes me back. Didn't watch the second video but I want to see gameplay. Not sure if that second video has it.

Once I see gameplay I'll know if it will be a worthy successor (in terms of likelyhood).

Alas, no gameplay yet.
2nd vid shows off a bit of the Age of Empires I Definitive edition. They also announced they'd be making Definitive Editions for Age II and Age III.

I was just about to post this here, actually.

Nice. Loved Age of Empires 2, so can't wait to see what they'll be doing with this new one.

After their failed Age of Empires Online and that Clash of Clans-like mobile game they made, I'm quite confident they'll be going back to the roots and actually make an overall awesome game this time around :sohappy:

hmmm. I think we gotta be a little cautious here.
First off, it's not the original guys making it. Ensemble got disbanded by Microsoft after the release of Halo Wars. Over time they've branched in different studios, the most well-known one being Robot Entertainment (which did the AoE Online game iirc)

This time around the game is being developed by Relic, the guys behind the Company of Heroes. We know they can make good games, we know they can make 'em bad too. Their style does differ a bit from AoE though.

Judging from the teaser's lines at the end:
"Together, we have battled through history. Now a new age is upon us"
I'm guessing we're moving on to the next era, the modern age.

Image from an old artbook, apparantly.

Luckily for us, it is at least a time period Relic has good experience with.

After the announcement of Age IV, I reinstalled Age III and realized just how user unfriendly the game actually is. Starcraft definitely changed the playing field with many of its quality of life changes. The UI needs some cleaning too...

Anyway, I'm very hyped, but try to keep it to cautious optimism.

Age of Empires IV will definitely feel different from the previous entries. A lot of time has passed and expectations have also changed.

Lately, I've found myself weirdly enthralled by this Age of Empires II youtube scientist. He's like the Artosis of Age of Empires...

I've barely ever even played a multiplayer game of Age II.
