im buying one for my gf birthday, I'm more of a pc player so im not sure wich one i should get.

ps3 160 gb is 200$ and xbox 4gb 130$ atm

so there's the things i want to know before i buy one.

is there a big difference between the game being released on the platforms?

right now i'm more interested in the ps3 since there's the blue ray and you can connect it to the internet for free.

Connecting the xbox to the internet is free too x) the gaming isn't. AFAIK games are mainly focused on the xbox, although that could've changed by now. It mostly comes down to the bluray option and exclusive games.

Xbox 360
-Pay 59.99 (49.99 if you catch it on sale) for 12 months of Xbox Live (lets you play online)
-Pretty interface
-Halo, Gears of War, Prototype, Forza

PS3:
-Bluray
-Free online play
-Drake's Uncharted, Infamous, God of War, Socom, Gran Tourismo, Killzone, Resistance, Little Big Planet, Ratchet & Clank

It's sad because I only own an Xbox and I can barely think of the pros about it LOL
IMO I think PS3 has better exclusives, and if you're looking for a bluray player, that's another +.

360
Pros
-Many people with mics
-Cross chat
-Some good exclusives
-No games require installs
-kinect
-Your friends probably own it
cons
-Monthly/yearly
-Can't use netflix unless gold
-Losing the exclusive war
-12 year olds screaming at you quite often
-Must use their 2.5" or else risk of getting banned
-Installs for HD packs
^That's because the 360 cannot run the textures off the disc fast enough and forcing an install would mean many people cannot play due to the arcade version

PS3
Pros
-Getting a bunch of new exclusive titles
-Bluray
-Free online and services(Netflix, hulu, etc etc. Paying for the service still though, but free to use)
-Built in battery in controller
-Able to install any 2.5" drive
-Many games offer 3D and/or Move as a side option opposed to must use
-PS+. It's basically a subscription service to rent games.. essentially. Active subscription? You can play your games. Not active? No games. Able to keep the purchases you've made through your discounts of PS+ and some stuff like avatars I know is one of them. Useful if you never buy games. Though it's a grab bag of games. I have it and I find it great due to me rarely buying anything off PSN plus Target had a misprint for $15/year awhile back allowing me to continue off my first year that I paid $50 which I believe I got my money's worth of fun. Too bad wipeout was offered as the welcome back program, but whatever I own wipeout now instead of 'renting' it.
Cons
-Many games require installs(Though I have a 40gb and I had to delete some installs for new games. MGS4 is like 6gb and GT5 is like 8gb for total install)
-Not many with mics
-Good avatars(display picture) cost a dollar
Damn it Sony why. WHY too bad I never bought one and have PS+.
-Store updates at random times on Tuesday
-Not able to class action lawsuit

Coming from someone that owns a PS3 and uses a buddy's 360 often. I'd buy a 360 for Forza alone, but not worth to buy an entire new console for that. Guess you have two ideas from both sides. A 360 owner from Crismson and from me a PS3 owner. Sony had a rough bad start, but they're moving on up now. It's not $600 with no games anymore. It's cheap and has games now. Seems like a biased list from me, but whatever

If you have steady income, then the $60 a year is hardly noticeable. That's only $5 per month for xbox live. Not much.
Xbox also bans hackers. Ps3 not so much.
Ps3 however has less hackers.
It does have more kids screaming racist slurs all the time.

If it came down to it and Halo, Gears were on Ps3, I'd have gotten a Ps3. I have a few friends on Xbox now though that I've played with for a long time so I'm not leaving anytime soon.

@crimson; prototype is for ps3 aswell

Imo, the only good exclusive on xbox is gears of war..gran turismo is better than forza imo but forza is still pretty nice.
In the US though more ppl that play COD/Madden etc have a xbox for online, probably cause it released earlier tho.

I had a xbox and sold it for a ps3, i like the controller way more now, feels lighter and all. But mostly its all about Uncharted, + free online

I rarely use my PS3 and paying $5 a month is 'a lot' to me. The money itself isn't. What I'm getting for my money is. I just don't like to waste my money for something that I don't use. Plus when their competitors are offering it for free why charge? Don't tell me it's a 'better' service when it's still peer to peer. PS3 does ban hackers, but rarely MAC bans anyone making it completely pointless since accounts are free.

At least my opinion.

Xbox 360 is a better media hub. The only thing I hate about the ps3 is that I can't listen to music through the ps3 while I play.

My Rent is around $1,000. Add another $5 to that and you don't see any difference. It's different for a lot of people. Before I had income I hated the idea of paying to play online, but in reality you get access to a lot more features on Xbox and better support.

Now I cannot comment on support, but I never had a problem with PSN.. well besides the month downtime.. so ever need to talk to support. Features? Sure then. $5 isn't a lot yes of course like I said. But I just don't like the idea of what I'm getting for my money's worth. Just because you have the money doesn't mean it's worth it personally speaking that is. I RARELY use my PS3 for online and you can see why I'm happy with it.

Guess it kinda sounds like I'm coming off a poor/cheap person. lol

Not enough available RAM and/or developers don't allow it.

What ticks me off on the ps3 is that it supposely has better hardware than a xbox360, but when I load the console/start games/quit games etc etc. It all does it slower than my xbox does :/

About the paying for online features thing. I recently bought 14 months for 40 euro online. Just look around for a bit and it will be even less than 5$/month.

ps3 all the way.

I have an xbox 360 with live, a ps3 and a gaming computer.
And I almost exclusively play on the ps3, better games, controller is just much better, friends on the ps3 too.

But yeah, if you have friends on the xbox, go with xbox. If you have friends on the ps3, go with ps3. If you have friends on both, go with the ps3. If you have no friends, go with the ps3.

Another thing I hate about xbox is the amount of kids on the mic, it's ridiculous.
But 5$ a month for a fulltime babysitter, can't blame the parents.

totally depends on what you're looking for out of the console.. for instance, i'm seeing a lot of playstation love in here. but the competitive side of gaming (console wise) is on the 360, no doubt.

since it's your girlfriend though, i'm guessing she doesn't give a shit about that so i'd probably say ps3. 360 if you're cheaper and you don't really think she has a preference.
why don't you just drop a few slight hints, talk about the consoles a bit and find out what she'd prefer.

The little kids whining on the mic is only annoying when you can't mute them and they open their mouth. Any other time you just mute them and move on ._.

I just usually plug in my headset and mute it. At least on PS3 whenever you can't mute.

I own an xbox 360 and my brother owns a ps3. I enjoy being able to play games like fable, halo, gears, and mass effect. My brother only owns 5 ps3 games and he enjoys watching a lot of bluerays. Its just your personal opinion of what you want to get out of your console. I wish I could own both.

XBOX360 for Kinect (pulls really nice parties)
PS360 for serious nerd gaming
