Questions about the Nintendo 3DS

Post by [SD]Twysta »

Hey guys,

I'm looking to buy one for my little sister (and for my personal travels).

I've looked at several (2nd hand and new) deals out there, and I've come across a few questions. I don't trust the people that I'm going to buy this from to answer me this.

R4 card. These are just flash mem. cards right? The specific question is, if I don't have a card reader for these, can I hook up the 3DS to my computer (through USB) and still access the data on it, and also put films/mp3's etc onto it? Will this be the same as if the flash card were actually directly in my cardreader? i.e. no limitations or anything like that?

What's the deal with all these offers of "35 games for €20" ? Is this basically the "illegal" way to play these games? Like back in the day on the PSX when it was chipped etc.?

Also, I see some ads that mention R4 cards, some mention SD cards, and some both or neither. Am I right to assume that they are both just flash memory cards?

EDIT: I forgot to ask. My cousin mentioned something about a system that Nintendo implemented, that will block the device from even booting if you cheat your way into playing games?

Any info appreciated :)

Yea, its basicly games that have been "ripped" and
put on a single blank 3DS game card. And for that price of
35 games at £18/20euros i would certainly say to be careful
as you can never know what your loading up.

I would avoid doing that unless you find a legit work-a-round method to Nintendo's bricking system. Not really worth risking it to have your new 3DS become a useless brick.

Hmm OK I see.

Does the 3DS have internal memory btw that can be used for films/music?

EDIT: I just realized I put this in Other Games by mistake. Can a Mod please move it to OTL please :)

About usb connectivity, I doubt it, but I don't know. It's easy enough to get a flash card reader for pc though, and only costs about $10-20.

Anyone else know anything about the 3DS?

Do any of you have any experience buying ripped games on a R4 drive?

I need halp :D

EDIT: I just realized the topic was moved to OG. Why? It's not about other games, it's about a console and I'd rather have more people see it. Would someone be so kind as to move it back to OTL please... I'd very much appreciate it if it gets the amount of views from OTL.

It doesn't matter that you want more views, it belongs in the other games section.

And I have a 3DS. I only have one game and didn't play it much. The 3D gives me a headache and takes a while to get used to. I mainly got it for my collection but I want to get Ocarina of Time on it because I might actually play.

And before this takes the turn into R4 and ripped games, let me remind you:

Silkroadforums.com strictly prohibits cracks, keygens, torrents, bypassing trial versions of softwares and other methods of illegal activities. These posts will be edited or removed without discussion.

I tried it out before but really disliked it. I have to say that the 3DS is not for everyone. Maybe I'm just a grumpy young man but I find no incentive in spending more money just so I can see a hologram-like image that gives you double-vision when you hold the device in a different way. There's a sliding control on the side of the 3DS that allows you to control how 3-dimensional the image is and basically, the more "3D" it is, the more unstable -- you have to keep the same distance and angle in order for it to remain that way. Otherwise, it looks all weird and you constantly have to readjust the sliding bar. It's quite annoying and it'll end up giving almost anyone a headache. For that reason, I went ahead and just got myself a DSi XL.

As for those kind of 50-for-1 game cartridges, I really don't trust them. I'd rather not risk messing up my DS and most games are cheap enough that I can just buy the ones I actually would play. Rather than having a hundred games that I probably will never even use.

New games are around 39,99$ anyways, no real reason to pirate them.

Does the XL fit in your pockets? (Let's say slim jeans). Guess it's worth the 20$ extra anyways.

Thanks. I heard this from quite a few people now actually. I might look in to the DSi.
