Should I get a PS3 slim or 360 slim.

I'm getting the option of getting one for free.

Which should I get? I already have a PS2 so controllers would be cheaper for ps3 cuz I could just buy the adapters. PSN is also free (course the recent hackings are a bummer). Also I'm not sure what Playstation plus is. Are they moving over to pay per year like Microsoft? The Steam thing coming to PS3 sounds interesting but I don't know much about it. Also, I heard PS3 fails less in general compared to 360. Yellow Light of Death?

On the other hand, 360 has bigger and better online content, and I do like the controller more. Downside is the online content requires $50 a year, but they get more releases earlier. 360 has quite a high fail right from what I hear. Instead of Red Ring of Death, it's not Red Dot of Death?

Friend-wise I have about the same amount that use each console so that's not really a factor for me.

I'd say go for the games.

Like Halo and Gears Of War for 360 and Infamous, Gran Turismo, etc. for PS3.

so why don't you make choice and stop acting like you still don't know which one to get. you know all the pro's and cons. just buy one and save us this gay discussion which we already had a thousand times. ps3 fans go for ps3 and x-box fans go for x-box.

I had a 360 for awhile and honestly I didn't really like paying for live. I bought the game I shouldn't have to buy online service. But maybe that's why they can sell their boxes so cheap. They figure people are going to buy live and they will get their money in years time.

PS3 on the otherhand I did some reaserch and many have said Xbox was better for online play PS3 had the features.

Also you shouldn't have to worry about failure rates IF you take care of it. Like dust it once a month and replace the factory thermal paste with some artic silver when it's out of warrenty. That is if you feel like messing with the X-Clamps on the xbox or what ever PS3 has.

and no the X-Clamps are not the cause of the red lights of death.

Cuz I don't.... I'm not a fan of either. They gave us a ps3 by default, but we have the receipt so we can easily swap it for a 360.

I'm not sure I can use ps2 controllers for the ps3 slim though... kinda disappointed if that's true...

Which controller feels more comfortable?
What do your friends have?

Only questions you need to ask to decide which one to get.

Is it? I've looked around on youtube and googled it and yea RROD doesn't exist on the 360 slims, but that's because they took the light out right? I've heard of several cases where it's not the Red Dot of Death. Apparently the backup mechanism which shuts down the 360 and shows the red dot is suppose to allow for the console to cool, but people are reporting that it ends up stuck in that red dot stage.

So I picked up the PS3 today, still in the box and they gave us the 160g slim version with Black Ops. A bit surprise as I was just expecting a console only. The receipt said 299.99 so basically I can still exchange it for a 360. Still in the box.

My friends have 360s and PS3. What are some good games? I know about Halo that's xbox exclusive, but that's really it.

Does anyone here have a ps3 and know how the Steam thing works? Can you play all you steam games on there or what is it for?

You need xbox live gold for netflix right? What about Ps3?

Make sure you grab GTA IV. inFAMOUS is pretty good too.

It is a per game thing. Not built into the ps3.

Don't need anything. PS3 has no online fees.

Not really. I chose my PS3 mainly for a couple reasons.

-Metal Gear Solid 4 was a main reason
-Free online due to the amount of time I use my PS3

Though am I a fan now? I guess.

Well if your friends have both consoles then I don't see that being the influence like usual.

Good exclusive games? Well the ones I own.. inFamous, Little Big Planet(With friends. I have to stress this, because people bitch and moan that the game is boring.. and they're playing alone), Uncharted 1(I do plan on buying 2 and 3, but not now. I'm cheap), God of War Collection + 3, Gran Turismo 5(Though the game does get to become a grind later on. Also fun to play with a buddy watching you if you have a steering wheel), Metal Gear Solid 4.

Good games in general. Red Dead Redemption, Grand Theft Auto 4, Portal 2.

The way Steam works that it's built into the game and it's a very very simple application in it. You log in, or create an account through the little menu for Steam. All you can do with Steam through Portal 2 is save your game to the cloud, talk to people on Steam, and auto syncs achievements to Steam. Nothing too special. I hope they expand on it.

Live subscrptions says you need gold to use Netflix. PS3 you just download Netflix off the video section and log in. Simple. No need to pay extra.

Online quality is still the game. Peer 2 peer. Games that set up their own dedicated servers are a different story which AFAIK Microsoft does not do. Being able to talk to another friend with cross over chat is a neat thing, but that's all I can think of.

Gears 3 coming out this year, Prototype 2 (Counterpart to inFamous2) also coming out.

Metal Gear (solid?) RISING will be an xbox exclusive afaik.
And Kojima is said to be in the works of a multi-platform game.

It's not an exclusive. It'll be available for PS3 and 360. However Kojima is an executive producer on the game.

Thank-you to all the helpful replies.

I went with PS3 since me and my gf aren't really that big of a gamer thing. The thing that did it for me was the whole we can use netflix without needing to pay other shit. We don't play that often but we do watch Netflix a lot so paying 50$ just to make sure I can watch netflix seemed too much for me. That and this was a free PS3 so I can't complain. Turns out it comes with Black Ops and the First STrike pack whatever that is. Still slowly getting things hooked up here.

:)

I said play not quality. Meaning in terms of online play and your general experience online xbox would be better then the PS3.

Id agree tbh..

Anyways id say get ps3, has blu-ray player which you will need later on anyways, paying for internet blows & isnt a new xbox coming out soon anyways?

You can also get the PS3 and then trade it for my totally awesome xbox 360 if you dont like it ;)
