I got this game last week when I bought my friends extra 360.
I have to say this game is amazing. I beat it already bu i'm going to replay it again to get to lvl 60, then I will replay it once more but as a bad guy. Then I'm going to play ME2 and transfer the data.
Anyone else play it? And comments?
Please use spoilers. And PLEASE don't ruin ME2!!!

For those of us who haven't really ever taken the time to research the game, anyone mind giving me a brief overview of the game play?

It is an RPG style game that is 3rd person view. The combat is very intense and you get to use skills, but the main fighting style is like that of most war games like Modern Warfare. There are 6 possible people who can join our party, but only 3 members in a party at a time.
Everything you do will affect the future of the game.
For example. if you play as a bad guy and you choose to shoot person A, this will affect the game play since you will get a bad rep. Youw ill be feared

this is true for both games, but even more true for the second game. just talking about it makes me want to play through again.

Oh really? Haha.
I wouldn't be missing out on anything huge if I just bought the second Mass effect and played that, having never played the first one, would I?

you'd be missing out on some of the back storylines in the sense you wouldn't really understand it having not played the first game. imo it's worth it to pick it up used or something. it's only $20 here pre-owned at gamestop.
doing that first you also spend a lot less to see if you like the game, kind of a win-win.

You should play the first one, its a brilliant game and effects the second one so much more when you use an imported save game.

Didn't think I would like this game but I was bored and tried the demo of ME2 and it's actually pretty awesome. The story sounded cool too :] Ordered ME1 from some 2nd hand guy, hopefully I'll have it thursday so I can make a start before school begins.

You need to play ME1 before ME2 so your character gets imported into ME2.
I played ME1 on Xbox and bought ME2 on PC. Wasn't as enjoyable but at least I had the story down... sort of.
If you don't have a profiled saved it kind of makes up the events of the previous game.
Mass Effect is definitely one of my favorite series, along games like Metal Gear Solid and Uncharted.

Yeah friends told me you should play 1 first so I ordered it. Every store I found it in had a waittime though so I went to buy it 2nd hand from a site like ebay. The demo was awesome so hopefully the full games will be just as fun =p

Finished it in about 25 hours. Had like 3 side quests left. It was shorter then I thought which made me sad. Friend did buy a xbox for his own dorm though

That 1, it was kinda weird since I had 8 hours in the game before I even started the first mission lol (after the pre-logue ofc, like after you get spectre)

Hehe, was the final battle epic or what?
Spoiler!
Space trench warfare I jizzed when I first saw it
Who did you choose in the final mission. Throug out 99% of the game I used Wrex and Tali

I blasted through the final mission, I played on normal but I didn't have many problems. Final boss was pretty easy as well. I used tali and liara mostly since I was a soldier myself. Sometimes I switched out liara for that human solier when I played solely geth missions.

No man Wrex is the game! You need him on your team at all times.
