XBox does not appear on TV

Post by Skyve »

Alright so I'm getting my friend's XBox for 50$ :D No RROD or anything but lately it's been having a problem. Basically, his Graphics kinda "screw up" at times. We know it's not the game because it happened on Halo 3,CoD and other games. I can't really explain how the graphics are. Pretty much, you can clearly see the different shading of colors.

So was wondering if thats an easy fix (maybe remove some dust) or it's done for.

EDIT: SCREW THIS PROBLEM ABOVE, READ THIS :(

I fail so much at consoles, can't even get it working on a Sony HD TV. :x

I plug in the Blue(HD),Green(HD),Red(HD),White,Red behind the TV. I make sure the thing connected to the XBox is set to HD Tv and still nothing. I press TV/Video on my remote to switch to different "modes". Like TV/Video 1 is Cable Box, then 3 is DvD, then 5 is what I believe to be the XBox. It probably is because the screen is kinda sparking and it "reacts"(quickly flash) when I switch in between Standard and HD mode on the XBox wire.

I'm confident I got the wires right, the problem must be finding the right TV/Video connected to the XBox. I've tried them all and coudn't find them.

most likely a RGB/Video Cable issue, if not the GPU is probably overheating

Find a tutorial on how to open it.
Crack it open and blow air over everything. I usually do this outside.
Make sure all the connections are secure.
Plug it in. Make sure the cables are secure.
If it still happens it might be that it is overheating somewhere, not necessarily the GPU but most likely.
I assume it is no longer under warranty and if you can find replacement parts (assuming you know what is wrong) they are probably expensive.

Reset the video settings.

http://support.microsoft.com/kb/911059

After this it will autodetect the HD for output to the component. If it is still black/blank the video cable is likely junk. The GPU fix is the same as the CPU x-clamp and you can get all parts locally.

Wow, I didn't think that they actually sold replacement parts. It seems like the 90nm GPU's are going for around $20-30 and the 65nm are about double.

The chips are soldered to the board. The x-clamp fix is nothing but replacing the heatsink retention backplate.

I didn't buy a HDMI cable :( Should of though it before. For some reason I though I would need to plug it in as HD because my TV is HD capable. Anyways,

It still dosn't work even if I go Regular (Red,Yellow,White).

I tried both in the back and in the front. I also tried Red & White only ( don't remember where I read that). I read the reset thing, but it assumes I can already see my XBox on the TV. I'll try tomorrow morning though :)

i know mine wouldn't show if i switched between the two while it was on. So i turned it off then on without switching it and it worked. Just plug in your hd cables, turn it off after a minute or so, then turn it back on.

i had same problem after my friend borrowed my xbox

thing was that he had a 1080p tv and i back then still had
a 720p tv. if he sets it at 1080 and i plug it in my 720
then i will get sound no image. idk about your tv but it
might be worth checking it on a 1080 tv if you dont own one
then setting the gfx back to 720.

idk that was my problem maybe it helps. i'd rather change
a setting than opening up the box

especially since you say your tv is hd capable (is not full hd
meaning not 1080)

Alright I'll try to help ya

First those cables you are referring to as HD are called Component cables.(color scheme is pretty self explanatory.) The regular ones you are referring to are A/V cables, Red-White = sound(left-right). Yellow = Video. So who ever told you just to plug in the red and white cables... They don't know what they are talking about.

You might even check your Xbox to see if it even has an HDMI port. (old ones don't)

If it's what Cin described; you should be able to do a restore to default settings.
To reset the display settings of the Xbox 360 console to the default settings, follow these steps:

* 1. Remove any discs from the disc tray.
* 2. Turn the console off.
* 3. Turn the console on.

Note If you are using an Xbox 360 Wireless Controller, turn the console on by using the Xbox Guide button on the controller.

Note Make sure that you use the player 1 controller when you do this. The player 1 controller is the controller where the upper-left quadrant light is on.
* 4. As the console starts, press and hold the Y button, and then pull the right trigger at the same time. This causes the Xbox Dashboard to reset the display settings to the default settings and then automatically restarts the console. So it’s OK when the Xbox 360 console restarts.

I'm betting this is your problem. I used to switch between TV and monitor for my 360 and this would happen sometimes.

Side Note: Most Tv, if you are plugging in A/V the channel is Video(X#), and if you are plugging in Component the channel is Component(X#)

Yeah I got told to use the Y+Trigger trick but it dosn't work. What pisses me off is that I know which "mode" (TV/Video 5) the XBox is connected to but it just won't react :x The black screen is sparkling and it kinda reacts when I switch between HD and Standard. At this point, I have to use the Standard Red,Yellow,White because I don't have a HDMI cable (to avoid confusion).

Maybe it because I don't have any games inside. Getting MW2 from a friend at school today, we'll see after :(
--------------------------------------------
This might help you guys with help me. I know my TV has that S-Video thing. I found an article but I dont quite understand. What exactly do I plug in into the S thing? The wire with the HD/Standard switch?

360s don't use S-Video so nothing you can do with that. S-Video is probably the worst out of all the ways you can plug into your TV anyways :)

You might look and see if there is another trick to resetting video settings. It just seems like that would be the problem. Also the cables you have should suffice. HDMI cables shouldn't have any effect on the issue.(could be wrong)

Have you tried it on another TV?

Also I don't think it will make a difference if it has a game or not in it.

can't you just plug it into a full hd tv, like i said
thats what worked for me and like you i also had 0 visuals
when i had this problem..

and about hdmi cable, when i asked someone about it the
good thing about hdmi is that it will communicate with
your tv and will know what settings you need, while the
component just goes with what settings you put in.

Yeah I'd try your thing but I didn't exactly understand, if you could rephrase please

Model is Sony WEGA LCD Projector TV KDF-E55A20*. Also, the TV/Video (Input) which is believe is connected to the XBox ic called "Video 5 - 8mm"

REPAIRED. I had the Blue,Green,Red ones right. But I had to plug the Red & White in the HDMI section.

If an xbox has issues it will never go away - trust.
You're just gonna have to buy a new one/one that doesn't have problems.

Yeah, read around and I'm one of many. The "Hear sound but blank screen" error is just another form of Over Heating. It affects the X-Clamps which are attached to the GPU, something like that. I think it only worked earlier today because it was off during the whole night. I bet that tomorrow after school, it's gonna work.

I'm happy I never actually bought one. It's kinda beyond me, like someone should sue them or something. You buy a 300$ Hardware that can't even handle heat. We shoudn't have to open the console, buy some washes and such to repair it ourselves. They should of recalled all the XBox and fix this shit from the start. I know it's not really realistic but it's kinda unprofessional. I don't even plan on getting a new one now, that Overheat BS could hit anytime.

Oh and no, I'll never buy a PS3 :sohappy:

I think anyone who has every bought/had a 360 has had this this thought at one point or another.(whether it be because console/game/controller.) I do think there has been a few class action law suits filed against them though in some states.
