Real Time Strategy

So it has been awhile since I have actually signed into the forum, but I have been lurking a ton. However, I finally have something worth posting/asking.
I recently got a Macbook Pro for my graduation present, and I love it. The one thing I want to do is find a real time strategy game that I can play on it when I am bored. Do any of you fine gentlemen (and women) have any suggestions as to a game that is compatible with a new macbook but still is fun? It would be cool to play a fps, but that is something I will worry about in the future.
If you have any suggestions, let them pour out of your kind heart as I sit her toying with my new gift.
Thanks.

Would I even be able to run games like Supreme commander or Starcraft on here? I honestly don't know since I just got it as a gift. I will look into it at least. I have heard of Red Alert and Age of Empires before, so I will also check those out too. Hopefully everything works out, I want something to play when I am bored.

perhpas posting your specs wouldn't be a bad idea if you want us to give you games you can play =/
but yeah, pretty much everything piootr just said...

I guess I never knew my computer was that powerful. I guess it was a good graduation gift after all.
Any other suggestions?

they has dat for macbooks

you should dual boot with windows so you can play games better. macs are not really a gaming OS. plus games are normally made for windows so you wouldn't have to worry about getting something to make games run in a mac environment.

Well in general I didn't want a computer for gaming. I just thought it would be cool be able to play some games on it when I am bored. However, to what you guys are saying. I am going to get windows on here at some point. I am not sure when, but I will.
Since I am not really sure what is going on, could this computer run SC2. I am still skeptical since it looks like it is demanding.. I don't care if I don't run a game at the highest level. Honestly, SC2 looks like a good game. I could careless if my graphics were not at the highest. If someone could let me know if I could even PLAY that game, it would be awesome.
I honestly can't tell if there is sarcasm in use here, that's why I am double checking.
sorry for ignorance, I stopped following computer gaming for awhile. I don't know what my graphics card is rated compared to others.
Thanks guys.

My school computers can play it on low settings. Dual core integrated graphics.
You're fine.

it can run a lot of things
http://www.notebookcheck.net/NVIDIA-GeF ... 437.0.html looks to me it can run almost anything at mid settings with playable frame rates.

I'm guessing you have the beta for it? But yea, if a school computer can play it, so can a mac. But I do plan on dual-booting it to have the windows experience.
Thanks Amarisa and Azilius

plus it still has tons of mods. The game aged very well.
I didn't care for Generals or Zero Hour as much. My bud loves them though.

Yea, I am really liking the look of SC2. From what I saw it comes out late July? I am going to need some practice to get used to the controls and everything. The only RTS that I have played is Company of Heroes..... and that wasn't really an intense RTS. Now I need to find a good mouse and I should be able to play.
Is it worth playing the first starcraft, or should I just hold off?

play the first one. to get a feel of how the game works. it hasn't change incredibly much. At least you'll know the basics. besides SC2 continues on the story, you may wanna look into that as the story is very good.
though...I'm slightly doubting whether the game will even work on what you have.

What makes you doubt it? I don't think I would run the game on high settings. I would probably go for low to medium settings to take it easy on my computer. I wouldn't mind reinsurance about if I can play a game like SC2 on this computer. It seems like I have everything but the graphics card, which I am still doubting.

i lol'ed how can you doubt that system? sure it might not be able to play everything at max graphics but it will still run anything just fine non the less.
think about it this way they optimize games now days to still run on P4 systems with a 7 series nvidia card. might not run it really fast but it will run as most people still have single cores these days.

http://www.notebookcheck.net/NVIDIA-GeF ... 437.0.htmlSince sc2 is more CPU demanding at some points, you should be more than fine with an i7 under your belt.

I lol'd. This thread is great.
The GT 330 you have isn't like a typical integrated card on a pc laptop. Your macbook, especially with the i7, will roll over most pc laptops.
I got my Mac a couple months ago, my first one. I thought using bootcamp and having windows 7 would be great. I used it once, and it was only to check if it installed properly.
My desktop gaming PC has been turned on 2-3 times since I got my mac, and it was only to transfer my movies and music.
+You're lucky you got the i7, i'm jealous. You should get in contact with Fug_Dup; he's basically the SRF mac-camp leader and will help you with whatever you need (get cloud asap!)

he asked whether he should play sc1 as well. that one I was doubting whether it could work. it might so old compared to his parts that it won't be compatible anymore =/
My jaw kinda dropped when he posted his parts xD
he'll be able to play SC2 without the slightest bit of trouble... probably.

well i'm able to run starcraft just fine with my computer.
(quad core vista all that stuff) just got to disable visual themes or what ever to make it run. because i have noticed that aero theme (or what ever you call it) causes issues in some games.

Haha thanks guys, I honestly didn't know how good of the hardware on this computer was until now. It probably doesn't help that I stopped following computers 3~4 years ago. Looks like I will be playing some games on this laptop after all. I actually just got a response from another person with the same macbook pro, and he said he has been playing the beta for SC2 with the high settings on. All I have to do now is get a good mouse and I am set. I already got a good suggestion, so I should be good there.
So far the two games I am interested in are C&C and SC. I think I am going to focus more on SC for now since it looks like a game I would enjoy the most between the two. So... think I can run some MW on dis bad boy?

hahah

I love my magic mouse but I can't game with it. It's great for designing though. It's also really cheap when comparing to high-end PC mice.
You should consider getting one and a cheap wired mouse for playing RTS.
