There are games where it actually takes skills to win - this one barely even qualifies. Sure, the boss looks tough and all but I think it takes away the fun of actually trying to win by actively dodging and shooting rather than shooting as many bullets as you can while you still have enough quarters left. Sure there are some scenes where the guy could actually dodge the bullets but most of them are close to, if not impossible altogether.

Thats not hard, thats just cheap. If you want fair, extremely hard boss fights, try Ikaruga on hard mode.

Agreed. It's like IWBTG, it's not hard at all when you memorize the patterns.

I AM BOSS. But I can only shoot everywhere else but at you.

If it can be beat, it's obviously possible and fair. I haven't played a challenging video game since nes. I'm impressed, this requires real strategy. Not only that but it lets you continue in the middle of the fight. With enough lives/continues it's easy if you think about it. Aaaaaaaaaaand this person is playing on "Ultra Mode" which is the hardest.

By the way this game, Mushihimesama Futari, is going to be released on the xbox 360 in Nov 2009 in Japan.

Lol I didn't even bother with IWBTG since it's more on memorization/trial'n'error. almost no room for free movement at all. although i did manage to finish Mario Cat - same deal but it was short enough to be fun.

It's not fair if you have to die to get through some parts. There were some parts where it was simply impossible to do anything but do as much damage as you can before you die. A player shouldn't be required to die in order to get pass certain parts. Any developer will tell you that's poor game design. Also, since you aren't free to move most of the time, there really is no strategy. Just hold down the fire button and watch the 3 or 4 dots that get close to you and do your best to weave in between them.

This is why it's called "Ultra/God Mode" because it's super hard. It's not poor development, it's supposed to be THAT hard.

Original Mode
Maniac Mode
Ultra Mode aka God Mode (Must be unlocked)

Original Mode - Yes it looks hard, but by no means close to impossible, especially if you play alot of these types of games and there are tons.

Code: Select all

This game is extremely famous/popular and even has figures of it. Newest was June 2009. Do you think they'd do that for an intentionally impossible game? Nope! =p

Again, any developer will tell you thats its still poor game design. There is nothing difficult about making impossible odds for the player. Most individuals not in the gaming industry will look at this video and go, 'thats a hard game' but someone knowledgeable in the gaming industry will probably just look at this as a big joke. Using cheap tricks such as Rubberband A.I.(predominately seen in EA games)or impossible odds to make your game challenging does not make your game hard. Being the hardest difficulty is no excuse for it. There are plenty of games out there where the game is challenging because of excellent programming and game design, not because a few individuals were too lazy to overcome a few mental hurdles and decided to cut corners.

So maybe we're just looking at it from 2 different views. Yea it's a hard game, but when I look at it from a developers point a view, it's not hard at all, just poorly designed. It takes a lot of practice and testing to make a game genuinely hard.

About the game being popular... It's no different than Rocky being Philly's hero...

It seems the developers of this game were more focused on making designs with their bullets than debugging their game...

Edit: Seems they actually bothered to test their game in the original mode and ultra mode was just get as many bullets on screen as possible(major drop in fps). Also, I do play a ton of 2D sidescrollers and even designed a few.

I disagree completely and I see it that as a personal opinion. Unless I get the opportunity to speak to a professional developer myself. It's not exactly the most complex game out there, with the most advanced AI, its a fun, simple little game, made exactly the way it is on purpose. I can't see this game having a complex AI whatsoever. This is also an older game. And I don't see where you "have to die", I see in the video where that guy messed up. I see strategy in maneuvering around designed bullet obstacles. I see patterns. Games are made for gamers, not developers. I look at it from a gamers point of view, because that's what I am and playing games is what I enjoy and I know I'd enjoy playing this. I always have while I was growing up. These types of games are famous and there have been endless amounts made over the years, popular, so obviously there is nothing wrong with them and people like the challenge.

I'm d/ling it right now.

EDIT: I've been playing the game for an hour and a half or so and it's EXTREMELY fun. Normal mode is playable and not impossible, Maniac mode is a bit harder and Ultra I have yet to unlock but am eager to do so. There is definitely no "development" faults with this awesome game, it's 100% fair. I even went looking for the OST. I think you should play it before you poke it anymore. This being said, as a gamer.

I don't consider a game difficult if it's just memorizing patterns.

I consider that being cheap.

I agree with you there, but what then, do you consider difficult?
