ITT: we talk about CS: S & CS 1.6.
So I finally decided to buy the damn thing and I suck, anyway to get better in a short amount of time? I went on a server and every second the announcer yelled "HEAD SHOT" so I'm assuming in CS:S you have to have insane twitch reflexes & a good mouse. My mouse is normal & my reflexes are "mad rusty yo."

Do you have the one with good graphics or the one with out dated graphics? Or both?

Just keep playing and the skills+reflexes will come. There's no fast way IMO, but it's best to observe how other people play.

CS? Dude, you're like 10 years late.
Life's tough, kinda hard to catch up with folks who've been playin' the game for a decade. No stairway to leetness, my good friend. Play a lot and observe the best.

You can learn to be good quickly, we have done it before when I used to play a lot. We had someone's friend come in and within 2-3 months he was producing in our league games.
You just need a training regime. Anyone can be taught how to shoot, what you need to learn is how to be smart in game. That's something that's easily trainable if you're quick enough to pick up on it.

Play team deathmatch servers to get better aim and general skills, it's also faster so you'll prolly get better reflexes as well. You respawn instantly so you don't have to wait a lot, more playtime = better practice!
Playing with experienced players will also help.

How do I distinguish Deathmatch from Normal CS:S matches, I don't see anything listing the type of game and when I try to make my own server (to practice headshotting bots that are armed with only a knife on expert difficulty) there isn't a spot to choose what type of game I want it to be. People also give their servers odd/misleading names. =\

depending on what version you're playing (CS:S or CS:1.6)
the hit boxes are actually quite different, CS:S have larger hit boxes, thus spray and pray would actually get you a few head shots if you're lucky, CS:1.6 however has smaller hit boxes thus need more skills to aim.
I would treat them as completely different games, since the play mechanics are different. Otherwise, its just practice until you're good

To bring out your full potential in counter strike, you should have a good computer that can handle around 100fps, a comfortable mouse and a really good mousepad. Try playing around with resolution.

im getting css when my new pc is up 2 gether barotix we can learn 2gether if u want lol.
no ive played it before, and in my experience... find a good clan server which play mainly normal maps and stick at the making ur way at the top of the table.
you cant camp in css. dont try. you never see the good players camping because they know they wont get away with it.
i think a week or 2 of pretty frequent playing will get your score even at the end of the round.
tips include things like crouching whilst shooting, it can improve accuracy.
jump round corners (you need to be pretty good to us it effectivly imo)
run with a knife (its quicker)
and use "trick jumps" to your advantage... putting the bomb on the top of the crate in AZTEC is a certain victory when playing with not so great players.

I had my friend get REALLY good at this game playing casually on gungame servers. Gungame is when everyone usually starts out with a pistol. Then each kill you get a new weapon. Some are respawn servers that helps get even more experience.
After you get the aiming down start playing DE_DUST2 only servers. This is probably the most played map and it's great for people just learning. Try going in no AWP servers for a while.

Gungame is not that cool, I started out playing it and I easily got the first place in every game I played.
Then I taught I was really good so I started playing regular maps like de_dust2 just to find out I was nothing compared to real players.

team deathmatch is modded, it's not standard in the game. Try searching for deathmatch in your server tab, should find something. If not, you will stumble upon one eventually and then just add it to favorites

gungame is good to master weapons ud never use but not a tool for training...
if you want to be good then u need to do css training... my bro was obsessed with css training (such as training your muscle memory to move specific distances such as turn 90degrees exactly and crap like that..)
i suggest playing gungame and Dust2 or Office as they are the most common clan war maps. (in all clan wars ive played in we always did 3 rounds... dust2 t and ct then our choice c and t and theyre choice c and t... )
ps. Surf maps are my favorite part of css. and i was REALLY good at them when i used to play

also... learn Bunnyhop (without script) its a good trick xD

REALLY good player on gungame? Really good player that plants bomb ontop of a box on aztec?

Planting a bomb on spots like that is illegal and will cost your team the round in 9 out of 10 leagues/ladders/comps/lans. Not to mention the "good" players don't even play aztec..

Ofcourse the occasional pub whoring is fun

"Really good" really means, okay on public, 99 out of 100 times.
It's so typical.
"Are you good at cs:s?"
- "ahhaha yea man I'd totally pwn you"
But really these people just play public and beacuse they pwn newcomers there, they think they're good. Please don't be like this..

What you should do is simple, play scrims (just begin as low 5v5's) this way your gamesense grows quickest as it's serious vs serious. You learn faster when to expect people and where on certain maps. General knowledge of what is smart and what isn't. Where to expect that nade or where not to.
Deathmatch is definitely a good way to go. Play on servers with decent players.
If you put someone who thinks he's good, and gets a 2.0 KDR on a public, into a proper (even low) 5v5, he will get sat because he simply doesn't have gamesense, what's an a-split? what's an all around the world? "Omg nade on B, I'll go there now" whilst the team is on the way to short or something.
The best way to become good is to just play scrims and just start with a low team and play on a very regular basis. Occasional deathmatch is good. You get the sense of what players do and where to expect things. Just judging by what people say on the subject I can pick you out the noobs one by one.
Just incase you're wondering, this is coming from a midhigh cs:s player and high ET player.
I've played on high lans and I got 16-1'd by a better team although I'm "Great".
Obviously I'm more or less a competative person, but if you wish to be "good" as you describe it, that's what you need to do. Don't need to be a genius to know.
EDIT: Plz (PLZZZ) don't make yourself a charmapped name!

agreed with all except first. that's for med players. when you get used to it, you need to move around ALL the time.
Remember, a still target is an easy target.

until you get 1 shotted in the head because you're ducked and not moving
penfold1992 wrote:jump round corners (you need to be pretty good to us it effectivly imo)
until you realize when you jump you lose all accuracy and won't get it back until you stand still

until you get shot with your knife out

You shouldn't need to do gay plants. If you have time to get to the top of the box you're doing something wrong, the bomb timer could have already beeped 1/4 to 1/2 through.

1. dont crouch why shooting makes u easier to die.
2. Jumping around corner just means u get shot at since guns suck with recoil.
Run with deagle knife is only for gettign to places.
"trick jumps" as you say aren't really trick jumps if u can defuse through the box.
I can easily take out 5+ ppl with an awp alone. kirks seen my beastness

50 rounds per clip with a small amount of recoil, perfect for spraying. It is what bad people use.
