Red Orchestra: Heroes of Stalingrad

Post by Reise »

I dunno if anyone else here but me played RO, but I've been all over this game since before Ostfront went retail. Tripwire Interactive is working on their UE3 licensed game, Red Orchestra: Heroes of Stalingrad, which wouldn't have been possible without winning that Make Something Unreal contest from way back. ROHOS will feature the Battle of Stalingrad in its entirety from July 1942 to February 1943. It's primarily a multiplayer game, but there is word of a single player "campaign." There is also a new game mode similar to Terrorist Hunt from the Rainbow Six series, where a squad of human players must fight against a squad of CPU players and use tactics in a pseudo-last-man-standing fashion. Shit looks amazing so far.

Spoiler!

It's a sim-like game, lots of realism elements. You can bleed out, weapons collide with objects in first person, you can snap to cover, mountable MG's that pivot on their bipods correctly, etc. One shot often means one kill. The list of things RO does for realism would take a page to list, so I'll post a video to give an example. There's also going to be some kind of rank system. Players can attain "hero" status and a few people are speculating that could come with uniform unlocks and other customizable goodies ala UT3.

Not sure when it's supposed to be out, but it shouldn't be very long now. I'm guessing early next year.

I remember playing an older version, cant remember if it was a BF mod, or a CS:S mod.

Either way, it was a really built game. But i couldnt get into it, seemed to have a really steep learning curve for a FPS, far too hard for me to get used to. So i uninstalled again after about a week.

UT2004 mod. It's great once you get the hang of it.

Really a niche game though, a lot of people who are used to CoD would hate it, and have before.

Looks like cod4 made into cod1 but I can't really judge until I've played it.
