well I'm pretty sure most of us know by now that Starcraft II is in development. I thought i'd make a thread to see what everyone thinks of it so far. here are some clips of all hte civilizations.
Opening Cinematic, Zeratul vs Hydralisks and Queen of Blades Kerrigan: Code: Select all
CG trailer, Marine: Code: Select all
Protoss Gameplay: Code: Select all
Code: Select all
Code: Select all
Terran Gameplay: Code: Select all
Code: Select all
Zerg Gameplay: Code: Select all
so after seeing all of htese what do you guys think? to me this game looks alot better, not just graffic wise. the environments look much nicer to play in, i really hated the eary feel around the old game. i just hope the game will be a bit less chaotic and would have a better interface, like AoE (personal opinion, don't flame). I don't really liek the new voices for the protoss, old zealots sounded much more aggresive and powerfull. race i'm looking most forward to right now is probably the zerg. they seem to have some interesting abilities. I most of all hope that they change the map types. i hated the speed in which starcraft works, you hardly have 5 mins before the AI, that knows your exact location, attacks. The matches never lasted long I like to stretch my matches by an hour or two. I really hope they fix this part.

would be really stupid if they cancelled this one too, just like starcraft ghost. but i don't think they would, they've already gone too far to go back

starcraft 2 looks way too much like warcraft and they took out all the old units. Why not keep the old ones and add on several more new ones? They just messed up the balance that made the game epic in starcraft 1

the game isn't even complete yet -.- the balancing is exactly what they are doing right now. also the zerg aren't complete yet either I think. I can only agree on the adding more units thing. however they did not take out all the old units, for starters basic infantry is still there: marine, zealot, hydralisk, ultralisk, zergling + carrier and the terran ship. next many of the units are still there but have been edited and renamed. the old dragoons are now immortals, wraiths are now specialized anti-ground units etc. I was thhnking what (for me) made starcraft inferior to other strategy games, and I came to the conclusion that starcraft/warcraft sticks with the absolute minimum of requirements. They got like 1 unit for everything and thats it, not like other games where you got anti infantry infantry, anti-ranged infantry, anti calvary infantry, anti cavalry cavalry etc blablabla.. basicly the starcraft and warcraft series lack choice, u are sorta limited to using units for only 1 purpose. If they could fix that, the game would be awesome. probably the only thing that really kept people from quiting was that the story kicked ass.

WC3 is mostly focus on hero building, not having a hero on your team really gives you a daunting disadvantage. It was originally made as an experiment for WoW, if you havn't notice already (miniquest, ! on npcs, camera angle, pick up items etc...)
SC in general are more focused on the units themselves, rather than hero pwning, you have to utilize and know how to mass your units accordingly.
Yes they're both rts but they have a different focus overall, however all blizzard games have similar story lines and stuff, which annoys me, but still its going to be a pretty epic game when it comes out.
edit: added some details

im talking about the appearence -_-
anyways I'm not happy that they took out almost all the units. No reaver bombs and overlord hunting with corsairs anymore.

My hope is that they don't simplify it too much. Ease = no higher level playing. Also, the art direction is lacking. Most units look alright, but the buildings aren't as distinct as they were in Starcraft for Protoss and Zerg and the Terran buildings look too clunky. Death animations should be simple to avoid clutter; function should be emphasized over form.

eh, with mbs and automining, the skill level needed to compete will be much lower than sc1.

There goes that awesome eerie feeling... Anyway, I loved this game when it first came out, loved the storyline too...
Some things I'd like to wish for though...
1. A better storyline. One that expands the story of SC1, something that is not expected would be great.
2. The inline movies or shows after a mission level should be longer.. Something to look forward to after finishing a mission level... After All, We are not talking about limited HD Space here...
3. A bigger Map. for every level, with a lot more maneuverability.
4. Longer set up time... The AI attacks shortly afterwards, not allowing one at least some time to explore using all available units. Experimenting on the units available makes it more fun, than setting up defenses right away...
5. Make some more campaigns or Missions. Typical Campaign for this is three: Earth,Zerg, and Protoss... Add some more campaigns and storylines...
6. Add some Easter eggs for the player.... Some welcome additional unit if he so happened to meet a sequence criteria, or happen to tumble along a certain path...
I'D LOVE TO GET MY HANDS ON THIS GAME, SOMETHING TO RELAX ON WHILE MY SRO CHARACTER IS VENDING...

multiple building selection. ie. u'll be able to select multiple rax and just hit m over and over to build marines from each one.
automining. select ur cc and right click on a mineral node and once the scv is done it'll go straight to work collecting minerals.

ahh wait nvr mind, i misread. but I am pretty sure you could do the mbs thing. and even if it wasn't there, I really don't see how it's presence now would make the game all that much easier. it just allows for slightly faster unt creation...

^^ never finished it, the story was good but the AI annoyed me terribly. i'm exited about sc2 because i'm hoping it may be a bit more user friendly. as someone already stated above, you never had time to expand. it was 5 minutes before you get attacked and then it's just constant rush attacks. the game ends so fast that you don't even get the time to create all the units.

I liked SC1 because to be pro required a lot of skill Macro and Micro (Speed, reaction-time, multi-tasking, mindgames, etc, etc.) wise which is something I've seen Koreans do like as if it we're breathing lol.
Btw,
Must construct additional pylons.

Corny? The music blending was way too fast, and did not meld right towards the end.
