Your opinion and you can play the trial for free. But after it ends, you have to buy the game. I personally don't like WoW and that's why I play Runes of Magic. Come over.

I'd try it out if I were you to be able to tell if you enjoy it. Honestly, I hated it when I first started playing the trial. Tried it again a few months later, and loved it... and now I'm still playing it. lol

All MMO's are a trap. Getting yourself in another is like changing to another drug. If you really wanna play a game that does not waste your entire day, try to find something that you only buy once and can play whenever that doesn't require 3-5 hours a day of grinding.

I really have to go with Necrobat with this one, friend gave me a 10 days trial and I really disliked it because of it's limitations. A year later, I took the initiative and got the game and started playing it myself, and I have to say it is justifiable why 11 million people plays World of Warcraft and the second most played MMORPG can only get 450,000 players.

The trial is great, you should try it.
I personally like the game because of the PvP. I mean, thereis capture the flag (Warsong), 2v2 arena battles, duels, World PvP between the Horde and Alli's. If you are a PvE-er, the dougeons are really fun to do with others if you have a guild with ventrilo or something.
Overall, its very relaxing and enjoyable.

To both your questsion:
is WoW really that great? Yes.
and do I have to buy the game first? No. You can download and install it free, but you need an account and game time to play.
You can get a free 10 day trial if you want to test it first, but make sure to pick a realm with people you know.
