Is there a level cap? Updated constantly? This game looks great and everything, but I been reading it just like Diablo 2 with much better enhanced graphics and a linear character creation based solely in your gear (Ability points are automatically spend). And as for the auction thingy: morelikely you'll only see high end items (like wearable at highest level) cause no point buying something that will be useless after a couple of days. So, whats up? lol

-Also, Thanks Dom for the code.

60 level cap.

Small tweaks are made on a daily basis, but the game has just been released so it might change later. They said they wouldn't be making a lot of new content because this is a one time fee game.

I haven't played Diablo 2 but from what I know this is very different. There are a lot of different arguments as to why it's better/worse than Diablo 2, but better or not, it's a very fun game.

Character differentiation is indeed gimped with the removal of any real choices when levelling up except for what build you use. But then again, soon enough everyone will rock the same, more efficient build.

Gear is where the real difference is, and about the auction house, you find equipment for every level. By renewing your gear every 5-10 levels on the AH you'll be as strong as you can be, since you'll find gear with the exact stats you're looking for. That might change as the community starts to reach the cap.

Items sell pretty cheap too, so dumping it after a few levels is not that big of a deal. In the mean time you'll have made all the money back + profits, if you know/try to.

Personally I suggest you don't level any of your artisans since they're a money sink. Just sell all your blues/rares to the shop or if they're good try to sell on the auction house. With the money from that you can buy better armour and gems than what you could craft if you had invested in the artisan. I think it only really makes any sense to level your artisans when you've reached cap and have a lot of money laying around.

I've been recycling the same optical drive since like 2003. It's actually quicker for me to just download the game than install from CD :soosad:

Edit: Started using a lot of blues and I thought I would share. For weapon I still use a yellow because it can get the bonus damage + strenght/vit in addition to a slot. But for most of the other pieces, i'm doing a lot better getting blue gear because all of the stats are focused into what I really want and not things I don't need: gold pick up range, life regen, int, dex, thorns, etc.

You saying that life regen is not good?

Beside the obvious Strength and Vitality, what would be the other best stats for Barbarian?

Healing on hit/kill ?

For Life Regen, if you stack a lot of it it can be really good too.

It's still worth using.

And what you said about blue items isn't really valid since if you search enough you can find an item with the same or better stat you want + extra stats that are always nice to have in the auction house.

Still worth using since you can probably more than make up the stats with a shield.

60lvl cap? I guess is not that bad, but sooner, there might be people with every character capped. Been watching some gameplays, I think maybe the fact of multiplayer can change to much more fun. To make it think it is like D2 just with better graphics, I like that.
But when you came to think, explore, mob raid, pick up, level up and repeat sounds too monotonous. I am guessing the excitement resides in the long run by pimping your character in every aspect. Also, I am not sure about the skill tree. How does it works now?

Thanks for the replies. I am still getting it soon.

If it's anything like D2, pimping your gear is awesome. Spending all these hours to gather the best set. Can't wait for PvP. :D

Your dexterity (assuming that's your main stat) boosts your damage by a percentage.

So assume you have 50 attack and 500 dexterity, you will have 500% of 50. If you add 10 dexterity on top of that it wont go up by much since it's only 10% more, but you have flat damage it gets boosted 500%, which will probably be more than 10% of 50.

These numbers are random, but I'm pretty sure that answers your question.

And the loot in D3 is completely randomized, so you can't really farm a certain boss for a certain set or legendary.

This.

I was struggling in hell until I changed my build. Focused on burst and damage mitigation, rather than sustained damage and healing.

I played with a friend today, we had played on and off since level 1. We were on the butcher in hell. His DPS was terrible and he died in 2 AoEs. I rolled the butcher solo with just the stun-heal passive and damage decrease shouts. He QQed the whole way because he hasn't changed anything since normal. Still stacking pure str and using bash.

It doesn't really help with those Farking blue mobs though. Until I started running out of the lasers, kiting mobs out of their poison, and making those fire mobs corner me so that i'm not stepping in their bullshit, I have been doing a lot better. I still die, die a lot, but i'm pushing through content now.

TL;DR: I find that in hell you need to adjust your build based on the mobs in the area and before every boss.

So question. As a Barb, is there a point where you need to change from gemming Pure STR to Vitality or another stat? Act 3 Nightmare I'm doing just fine survivability wise with STR gems and a sort of burst/mitigation build, but I assume for Hell/Inferno Vitality will be key just to survive the huge hits?

In NM I did fine with str/vit but there were group of mobs that I had problems with because I couldn't mitigate enough. In hell I generally still follow the same idea and use skills for mitigation. I had to swap out my 2H for a shield. The 25% +7% block help a lot.

I watched a stream of the first barb to solo inferno yesterday and it looked like he was stacking str, vit, a lot of dex, and all resists.

EDIT: I just checked my stats in game and right now I have 62 dex. 300 dex is completely doable with 2 good items in the low-mid 50s and would give 30% dodge. 30+% block and 30% dodge would do a huge amount of mitigation. I don't think they overlap but you should be able to feel the difference. I'm looking for STR/VIT/DEX blues right now.

EDIT2: Just bought this for 10k. Tooltip doesn't show that it gives 9.7% more dodge:

Oh yeah, worth getting absolutely, especially if you have friends playing. Like, I was going to buy D3 anyway but the fact that I have like 10 RL friends playing just made sure that blizz get my money lol.

Little update: Im a lvl 53 wizz. As for the vitality thing, I think you should focus on your main stat in normal, then when you get to nightmare start giving up a few main stat points for good increases in vitality. If you have a hard time doing NM, just buy a weapon from the AH. I had a hard time with act 2, bought a l33t staff for 15k gold and breezed through the rest of nightmare.

Hell is much harder even with decent gear, havent reached inferno yet.

I think somewhere between act 3 and 4 I switched to more mitigation skills so I'm on the right track.

In other news I beat Nightmare mode today. Took 22 hours of lots of exploring and dying to do so. Hell here I come.

I was corrected by reddit; I posted for clarification. About 10% dodge is ok but it doesn't stack well because of diminishing returns. Also, because were dependant on revenge for healing, damage reduction is what's needed -- not damage avoidance.

0-100 dex gives 0.10% dodge per pt.
100-500 dex gives 0.03% dodge per pt.
500-1000 dex gives 0.02% dodge per pt.
1000-8000 dex gives 0.01% dodge per pt.
