Overwatch

Post by Love »

Beta happening from right now til 9 pm tomorrow. If you pre purchased the game like I did you may not need an invite (I didn't receive one yet but can play).

This is the game that I actually been looking forward to playing the most and I finally get the chance to.

Sorry for the late respond but yeah this was a great weekend. If it wasn't for Black Desert Online I would've told you folks that this was the only fresh gaming experience I've had in recent years (BDO did a good job, Overwatch did an amazing job and then some).

In any case the game feels super rewarding and I love the fact that the matches are 10 minutes or so, the fact that you get 6 or so full experiences in an hour is amazing and I do mean full experience. Lastly there is the fact that all characters are mechanically unique for the most part and sure it won't take long for us to master them but each approach is so different and is different in every situation that you can't help but wanting to try different stuff over time.

The only thing I fear is people no lifing this and getting really good with 1 shot type characters and removing some of the more casual aspect of it. I always tend to kick ass when a new game releases but weeks later the no life souls tend to rain on my parade and that is obviously less fun for me. In any case, yes it was a great first experience and I am more than eager to play it again.

edit: I think I became part of closed beta

Overwatch open beta from May 5th till the 9th. http://us.battle.net/overwatch/en/blog/20100169

I think I'll give it a try then. I don't really see myself purchasing a multiplayer only title like this, but it's worth a try at least.

Oh, isn't that just perfect. My bachelor thesis has to be handed in on the 9th. No way I can participate in the open beta :soosad:

And thanks for sharing your thoughts, Love. Nice that you got to be part of the closed beta! :)

I've been wanting to buy this but but some friends of mine have told me that the community of overwatch right now is almost as toxic as the lol community. Is it worth it?

Well, it has got a huge community, so I guess that is to be expected. I haven't bought it yet, although my friends keep telling me to do so!

I bought :o
It was a 40% off during the black friday sales a little back, so I caved in and bought it after playing the free weekend on a LAN with friends.
Somehow this game fills the Call of Duty gap for me... I'm not even sure how that works.

Enjoyable overall. Community isn't as talkative as Heroes of the Storm unfortunately, but honestly that game has hit some sort of mystical balance where the majority of the community is actually genuinely positive. I hardly ever run into real ragers in HotS.
In Overwatch it's mostly just silence in the chat. Maybe cause I've been sticking to Quickmatch. I've Only really ran into one situation where the toxicity has been memorable.

Gameplay-wise the game is solid. A bit cliché, but I enjoy Soldier76 the most. He fills that Modern Warfare 2 void pretty decently for me, and basic characters like that tend to have an enjoyable skill potential. Somehow specialized or 'new and shiny' characters never do anything for me :S
I'm one of those people that's strangely incurious to a fault, so despite being past lvl25 I haven't even tried out half the cast yet. I kinda just stick to my comfortable selection and expand whenever I feel like it.

In MW2 the short rounds always bothered me cause it always ended too soon. In Overwatch the short rounds work well, due to the map goal. The map goals provide level of urgency which always gives you a full experience despite the short games. On a sidenote, the waiting time to select characters and setup during the game is way too long =_=. always takes 2 minutes before the actual game starts T_T

There's some winter stuff coming up apparantly:

The widowmaker MVP cam (0:41) is amazing :D

Yeah, it is a solid game for sure. I might have bought it when it was on sale if I had known about it. But eh... :)

I don't play much anyway anymore.

Wouldn't you have it. The origin's edition is 20 bucks off. Only €40 atm
I got it for €35, but hey €40's a good price too. The regular version is down to €30.

I heard this game was plagued with hackers at one point... Lots of cheaters complaining because their account was banned and they couldn't even use the same computer to play a newly bought account on lol....

Yeah, luckily Blizzard were really strict on cheaters, haha.

Anyway, I ended up buying the game some days ago. Absolutely love it :) A lot of fun to play.
