Outlast - The game that makes you shit bricks

For those who don't know, Outlast is a horror game similar to Amnesia in a sense. AFAIK there aren't any weapons, which means you'll be running for you life... often.
Your only means of seeing through the dark is a camcorder with NV....with limited battery.

Personally, once you can shoot and kill whatever it is chasing you [Dead Space for example] the game loses its horror factor. When you're really, truly helpless, that's when a game scares the shit out of me.

Dunno, it doesn't look like anything special, those kind of games have been done a lot by indie devs. Though this one is a bit more professional. I don't think it has anything on Amnesia though, but it does seem to be a little similar since they both are based on the same type of horror which is the most terrifying imo.

When there's an element of strategy to it, that's when it's really scary. SCP Containment Breach is scary, games like this just exploit the fact that people jump when something pops out of nowhere.

Yeah, things jump at you... but then chase you until you can frantically find a way out. I'll give it a shot since it's free otherwise I'd have to wait to see if it really is scary throughout the whole game.

I agree, SCP was ridiculously scary.

I think it's only available on PC atm but they plan to release it on more platforms. I paid $15 for pre-order but I think it's up to $20 now

Even when watching let's plays I turn down the volume and don't go full screen. Unless I know there are no jumpscares in the game, those are cheap and I hate them.

It was really lame. You just get shot and become the new host. It leaves it open for a sequel I guess but I thought it was really gey. I'll still play it when the PS4 comes out though, looks like fun and the let's plays don't really let you get into the story because they don't stop to read documents and such.
