Age of Empires - Which to get?

Get 2. Kings and Conquerors, it was my personal favorite. Asian Dynasties isn't that bad, I played the demo and liked it, but I'm old school and love AOE 2 and will never love another like I do that one

I've got all of em. The kings + conquerors was the best in terms of gameplay, with age3 + TAD + WC following it closely.

But the one I would suggest the most is actually Age of Mythology + Titans expansion.

It had the best campaign of all, and felt very unique.
I liked the hero of the campaing so much that I named one of my SRO characters in his honour

Age of Empires conquerors expansion is my personal favorite. Really a great strategy game and I really like the way they tell the story in the campaign. Shame most of the downloads don't have those scenes cause they're completely stripped.
But yeah, Age of Conquerors is the best AOE edition there is.

I would say AOE 2: The Conquerors WAS the best but that game would mean nothing to you now. If you've played any modern games, by modern meaning the last 3 years, then you would be very disappointed by the game's graphics due to it being very old.

I would suggest AOE 3 since it's actually 3d and has way better graphics.

yet people still play starcraft. Personally, I find sprite games to often be better. They always manage to get the atmosphere through better. The way the graphics are in age 2 makes it feel a lot like your looking at a story, something that's written in your history book.

I think this is where age 3 failed
Sure, it looked beautiful, but it lost that feel. you didn't feel like you were patrolling your troops through dark deep forest. It felt more like leading them between random trees. All troops in age 3 sorta lost there liveliness as well. all melee troops look like they attack in slow motion.

I completely agree with this. That's why I don't like AOE3 as much at all, I like my strategy games to be 2D isometric, personally. It doesn't need any fancy bells and whistles, just give me a good ol' strategy or empire/city building game such as AOE2, Zeus, Pharaoh, Roller Coast Tycoon 2, and I'll be entertained for days.

Really love AOE3, rather sure you can get all of them for cheap. Game is so enjoyable.

Sharp makes a good point, they should all be pretty cheap by now, I'd recommend AOE2 and AOE3, age of myths is fun with cheat codes

rpgs are for game play not graphics, saying that aoe2 is deff the best.
