Stalker: Clear Sky

Post by Innovacious »

So, anyone played it yet? So far im liking alot of the new features but its one hell of a buggy game. Ive had a couple instances already where ive finished an objective but the game dosnt give a crap. In the first area of the game at one point i had to go to an enemy outpost clear it and "Hold position until help arrives". Help never arrived. About 2 hours later when i was off doing something else i got a message through saying thanks and the objective was completed. Ive not had any major game killing bugs that mean you have to restart like some people have had though.

The enemies accuracy with weapons is even more annoying than the first one aswell. An enemy can hit you on the head with a grenade... from 200 yards... While you are the opposite side of a wall... with your back right up against it... and the wall is 10ft high...

They throw grenades alot while you are in cover aswell. Last night while i was playing i got killed by three grenades all landing on the exact spot i was standing at the same time. The enemy always say something before they throw a grenade but, when there are like 5 of them all doing it one after another there isnt really anywhere to run and sometimes they announce it in another language and you have no idea that what they just said means a grenade is coming your way. You cant run out of the cover to escape either because thats just suicide, especially if they have assault rifles, you pretty much get pinned on the spot.

They can also hit you at 100yards with a sawn of shotgun while you are behind cover with only your head showing above it and your sniper bullets arc down and hit them in the foot. This is on the easier difficulty settings btw.

Looking back i what i just wrote, there are some very bad sentence structures there, but oh well. Its only the internet.

For some reason i still want to play it even though it keeps pissing me off. Im not sure why though.

Another annoying bug i came across. I need to go into a bunker to see someone but the door is always locked. Looked it up on the internet, its a bug and the only way to fix it is to reload an old save and redo the last objective (and hope it works this time) or kill one of the friendly stalkers guarding the place and wait for the alarm to turn off, then the door will open. Luckly i was quite friendly with them so they didnt hate me afterwards, although some of them changed from green (friendly) to orange (neutral)

Also, a room on ground floor of a beaten down house with 2 windows and 2 doors will save you from emissions but a solid concrete room 10ft underground of a solid concrete building which actually has a door that closes (unlike the house) will not save you from emissions.

I also met some invincible bloodsuckers. 2 of them. i wasted pretty much all my ammo on them to no avail (including direct hits from my grenade launcher) then just reloaded and avoided them. They wouldnt actually attack me unless i stepped into the area they were standing in though, they just ran around in circles. If i stood on the edge of the area they would become fully visible as if they were attacking but still wouldnt attack until i took another step fowards, then i just have to step backwards again and they leave me alone.

Some nice new features though include guides. You can pay them to take you to other places so you can get there quickly. ALot better then spending ages running. You can also buy upgrades for most weapons and armour. Artifacts are alot rarer and you have to use special devices to find them inside anomales. They sell for alot more than in the first one. There are alot more traders now so you dont have to travel so far to find someone to buy your crap. You can also buy the locations of stashes off of people instead of just finding them on dead peoples PDAs.

There are 5 factions you can join now instead of just duty or freedom, its even possible to become a bandit. The factions will have faction wars to take control of territories. You can help if you want or you can leave them too it. Your faction is more likley to win if you help though of course and you get rewards for helping. Also, its easier to get around if your faction holds more areas. You wont get attacked by opposing factions if your faction has taken their outpost and guides can take you to more places.

There are more factions than just the 5, but (to my knowledge) you cant join or even become friendly with the others.

tl:dr

its a really good piece of shit

No, i only got it a few days ago. I got it on steam so it updates automatically. But ive heard storys, scary storys. Reminds me, i better go turn off the automatic updating. I just remembered you cant use saves from one patch on another patch. Thats another stupid thing about both the stalker games.

Its very immersive in the swamps at night. Your walking along, its almost pitch black and all of a sudden you hear the reeds moving and a boar growling. Then you see 2 glowing eyes running towards you. Its worse if they dont come out of the reeds, you get paranoid. Also, i did one mission where you have to cover some people from a rooftop at night time during a thunderstorm (its not always at that time, i just started it at that time). I didnt have nightvision and the flashlight dosnt do shit when your ontop a building looking down. I couldnt see anything, i had to quickly target enemies every time the lightning flashed and then fire blindly, hoping i had hit them. That was kind of fun. There wernt enough suprise bloodsucker attacks though tbh. Although i didnt spend much time in red forest, which is apparently packed with mutants, so there might be some there.

its probably my sig. Its not harmful. Some people uploaded some harmful stuff and instead of just their subdomains being flagged as dangerous the whole website did. I thought they would have got it fixed by now :|

i soo want this game, i just got crysis: warhead and im dissapointed tbh it gave a back story of a friggin side character and i stil know shit about psycho, nomad tho i dont know some random dude called o'neil was involved with raptor team got kicked out cus of a code blue situation gone bad and i think it was nomad who disarmed the warhead....all psycho was doing was talking bout him

oh well i did enjoy the graphics and the game play itself is sound but sometimes you want to play a game with emmersion like this stalker, might reinstall doom3 try complete it

Just as a warning, the ending to clear sky is not very good. And the whole ending section is not very immersive. Dont be in a hurry to get to the end like i was the first time around.

the release date got pushed back in america because they didnt put the serial code anywhere on it, so you wouldnt be able to install it. They had to recall them all and fix it.

Yeah, I play it.

How do you think it compares to oblivion lost then? I still havnt played that properly yet.

EDIT: haha, that place you "hide" during the blowout video is hilarious. If you hide in the undeground room directly below that building you wont survive it. Im actually surpised the Ai is hiding in the video too. They dont seem to give a crap when im playing, they just stand outside and survive.

Oblivion Lost has better blowouts. That's about it. Clear Sky does everything else a lot better. Packs of mutants, dynamic faction war, full darkness at night, etc.

I miss AMK's HUDs too, but mods will come.

Do you think it's playable on decent graphical settings with this kind of rig:
Processor: AMD Athlon(tm) 64 X2 Dual Core Processor 4600+, MMX, 3DNow (2 CPUs), ~2.4GHz
Memory: 1024MB RAM
Video Card: NVIDIA GeForce 8600 GT Sonic+

Yep, I already tried system requirements lab... but last time I took a test there and got a "pass" I ended up playing a slideshow rather than a game. :(

You will have to turn some settings down but you should be able to play it.
