A gap is a difference between your combat level and your mastery level. Depending on the size of you gap (1-9) you get less experience but more skill experience or (sp). Certain builds need lots of sp so they can get all the skills they want.

Farming is when people use a gap to gain lots of skill experience so they can afford their skills they want. During farming you dont get much experience so you wont level as fast, but youll get lots of sp.

+1, i suggest since you being new..you should just make a character with no subclass, maybe crossbow and just level up with that for now.
