Macro scripts

Post by JKMB »

I know that what SRF considers legit, and what JM considers legit differs at times, and also that it differs some what on Venus as well, which leads me to ask, are macro scripts counted as legit? By this I mean, auto key pressers that press hotkey 1 for you, or that type certain things for you, this is just a query and not flames or support as 3rd party software, JM claims (or did) in the ToS that macro's are allowed to be used with SRO, but I wanted to know the SRF and Venus stance on them :)

depends on the macro. the ones that come with keyboards are fine.

the rule for me is, if gameguard blocks it (back when it was still working) then its not allowed. things like autoit scripts are not allowed. things like hotkeying an extra mouse button to use a horse pot, thats fine. cuz in the end, its just as easy to push that key as it is to push a 1-9 key.

Ah ty, I can see why autoit scripts wouldnt be a good idea, reasons such as auto cast RD if you were botting, as an example, but ty for clarifying that for me :)

Yeaaaaaaaaah what fly said, but theres the other extreme where you set one up to bard in a party for you, which is NOT allowed and a guy in our union was kicked for it, that goes along for other party roles as well, cleric wiz etc

A G15 macro is non looping, which makes it different than autoit or one of those. You can make things easier using the G15 ie; login ID and PW but it will only do that sequence once so a human would have to be there.

keybaord ones are fine, but macros that like spam or auto cleric or auto bard are not ok, cause thats basicly botting using the normal client

Although I'm too lazy now to do anything but bind my G13-G18 keys to 1-6 because its more comfortable the only macros I've done are:

1: equip weapon if dual wielding so you when you cast a spell, the weapon is equipped immediately prior. I don't dual wield so this doesn't matter anymore.

2: having the non-skill attack execute after the skill attack. For some reason Euros don't automatically switch to non-skill attacks after skill attacks like the Chinese do. As a wiz, I just swap between skill attacks anyway so this is unnecessary.

Not really on topic, but w/e...

most of the people who do it watch tv or surf the web while their macro runs, then the party repots and you are still doing the macro while they are scrolling..

sure if you're completely retarded and don't alt/tab every few minutes...

BUT, I have no experience in this as my keyboard blows.

Personally I don't mind if it comes with your keyboard since they're pretty straight forward and if you use that to keep your imbues on instead of having to kill your fingers, its not much of a huge deal. Of course every mod is kind of different on the way they handle stuff so some strict ones may consider that "cheating" as well.

What we consider illegit is complicated programs that people code that combines more than one simple key strokes or mouse clicks to perform highly ordered task, like moving along a certain coordinate or a sequence of clicks and buttons to actually kill a mob.

You know, its like genetically engineering one cell from scrath is kind of okay but you can't clone or attempt to create an entire organism, that kind of thing.

First time I stumbled upon "macros" was totally by accident. Was in a wings party, and the 2nd bard was acting really strange. Dance kept getting knocked down, and took several people to yell over and over "DANCE" before it was put back up (more than 3 minutes before they were back up). Also out of an 8 man party, this bard would only cycle 2 ppl leaving me with the rest of the party and even then they would go almost empty before being cycled. Now I would say that they guy was afk, but for the cycling he was doing while dances and tambors were down....it was way to fishy. I went into sleuth mode and it didn't take me long to find information regarding macro's for bards.

Anyways, what I got from it was you must be a really shitty bard when you are playing to think you are fooling anyone when your macros are playing for you. In my opinion this kind of stuff is just as bad, if not worse than botting. And the guy denied it when he was asked about it so I let it be, but I still have my suspicions.

also weapon swap macros are kinda cheap too like some people have it switch weapons for them just by switching skill bar, to me thats removing the extra important step it would take you in pvp giving you an unfair advantage, and the macros always seam to switch perfectly unlike a person has the delay after they hit sheild before they can do the other weapon

Im 99% sure that he uses macros to swap weps in that vid, despite what he says at the end of the video, but its not possible to swap wep 1/2 way thru another attack, or it cancels the attack, try casting bless spell and spamming the swap wep button and you will see what I mean, yet each crucial rush then dare devil is executed perfectly ¬¬

I can see how weapon switch macros make it unfair for people who don't have them but the way weapon switches can sometimes be instant and sometimes take over 3 seconds is irritating as hell, it basically gives your opponent a free attack.

If you click a weapon mid skill the skill still works but for shields you have to right click it with your mouse to switch mid skill.

Hmm iv had instances where the skill cancels, like equping a glaive 1/2 thru a heaven chain, or un-equping daggers during prick, or even swapping to sword casting bless :/

This is how I look at it... These people with the macro keyboards, well they spend a good 100-200 dollars for them. Um, I think they should be able to use them to their maximum ability. Now I understand how some 3rd party program is unfair that runs on a loop but auto switching weps with a programmed macro in your keyboard is just using your keyboard, it's meant to make stuff easier for you thats why you spend the extra money on the keyboard. Idk, I heard you Venus people are super strict about the game so..... Yeah. SRO FTW.
