A level gap is the differance between your [highest] mastery level and your acual player level. I will give you a for example. I am a pure STR blader. I have my fire and bischeon masteries at 10. My level is currently 19.
19 - 10 = 9
This means that I have a 9 level mastery gap. FYI 9 levels is the highest you can have to achieve maximum SP gainage. Any more than that and you will find yourself not gaining any more.

You can just "Spend your skill points"
However, Level gaps aren't so difficult to understand.
Basically!
If you we're level 20 right?
And you killed a level 20 monster right?
And your blade level was at 20 right?
You'd get
500xp, and 80sxp.
But what if your blade level was at 11? So you had a 9 level gap?
You'd get
200xp, and 380sxp.
Understand?

Dang...that'd mean pretty much every mob you kill based off Protocols estimation would give you aprox. 1 SP per kill...seeing that 1SP=400SPX
only draw back...leveling would be forever. But the SP would be the big payoff

It's a little different i think.
If you get 500xp and 80sxp with 0 lvl gap
At 9 lvl gap you'll have
9x10% for every gap you have = 90%
500xp - 90% = 50xp
80sxp + 90% = 152sxp
You'll get 50xp and 152sxp
something like that
The XP + SXP is not constant
