List of Scams

Meh iv seen a lot of warning of them all but never all in one big post, i seen this on a forum for another game but the scams are all the same

The trade scam

You are shown a very valuable item and offer to trade for cash (cheap or a lower priced item). The trade is canceled! ohh sorry fingers slipped! Trade again! Long wait oh slipped again sorry I’m a newbie. This continues until in frustration you hit trade complete; at this point (if you are lucky) they give you a cheap substitution) rule of thumb; trade fails 2 time there will be no third.
Watch for a substitution of a plain for a + items. Accessories and similar items will also be used in this scam.

Impersonations.

Players
Similar names:
Recently we had a moonstone event where you give a moonstone to the GameMaster and you were entered into a lottery. There was a player standing in the town circle with a similar name to the Gamemaster accepting moonstones. If asked, she would admit she was not the GM but that still keep accepting stones from other players.

Trusted Clannie
Some players jump from clan to clan or even party to party just to gain your confidence. As a friend they want to borrow your best equipment to take a picture; enable their other character to kill a monster to finish a quest. Etc
This scam does not work on the victim’s greed but his civility. The victim is asked repeatly to lend his best items so the scammer can take a picture or any other reason. If the victim lends them the victim never sees them again and the scammer quits the clan and goes off to find a new clan and a new victim.

Similar names are also used by players to pretend that they are your friend. You may know Rodger but this guy is R0dger. Or you know XxSamxX but this is xXSamXx.

Only lend something that you will never miss if you never get it back.

The quest items Scam

Someone offers you an item and tells you that it does something special for your build (Experience etc) but doesn’t work for their build that why they will sell it to you. You will not find the NPC they send you and will call you stupid that you cant find them until you go away. All quests are controlled by the NPC.

The Fake GM upgrade/Drop item Scam

This one happen in another game but it could happen here. The stooge shouts that the GM is upgrading all items 3 levels for free. Give him your best items. He keeps shouting "thank you GM"; "thank you GM". After the scammer inventories are full they disconnect.

In Silkroad some scammers can use the well known chat bug to trick you so be warned

Silk

Silk cannot be transfered so do not belive someone who says give me gold and i will send you silk

DO NOT under any situation give out your id/pass to someone you do not know hell someone you know either unless you feel 100% you can trust them and even then be careful

Hacking

This word is used a lot and used too lightly, hacking basicly means they take information from a secure area and use that to get onto your account or use a bruteforce program to get into your account

Silkroad has a lot of security flaws most fixed now but due to these many people have been hacked and lost charecters and items, Silkroad sadly will not recover your account so there is nothing you can do

I recomend you creat multiple accounts to keep your cash and valubles you are not using this way you do not lose everything when/if you are hacked or scammed into giving your account info out

this was put together by
Datasurgeon
and i edited this for silkroad

ps what other scams are in silkroad my mind is blank i was gona add more but i think iv covered it

Good guide. was about time we got one like that :)

most of the scams i also know from other mmorpg.
ill try think of other but i think you just about named them all.

Maybe an idea to add some tips & tricks so ppl know what to do when they come across a scam like this? i mean, when you get a great deal offer on an item they shouldnt spam the confirm/approve button, always look at what you trade before approving or even always ask the trader to open a stall where you buy the item from?

anyways good guide :D

i heard about being "hacked" by accepting trade. i don't get this. i no longer accept trade now, just to be on the safe side.

Also, there is the high lvl offering to escort low lvls for trade runs, then turn into thieves themselfs. :(

Lately I've been getting pmed by random people telling me they could make my weapon SOSun +7 or whatever. I usually humor them by responding with: "oMgZ!!!11 o RLY?! dat iz SO COOOL!", then for some reason, they say, "yea just follow me."
Now at this point I tell them to piss off and have never followed them, but I was wondering how this scam works. Some of them didn't even ask me to hand them my weapon. Anyone else get this? :?

yes, someone tried that with my sos bow. the tell u to follow, but to accept party invitation first, so u dont loose them on the way. the point is, the invite u for ITEM SHARE party. then they show u how u should do it, like put it in stall play around with the price, drop it an pick it up again. the even show u how they do it. then u might try it, but when u want to pick it up, the other one gets it, because he is the party leader. first drop goes to the party leader, and so the gather some nice sos weaps from noobs in jangan mainly.

i tried that drop an pick up thing with a npc part first and i could see, how it works.

that a noob scam but there are still alot of guys trying that in Jangan.

Also sometimes, a 2 ppl team up and one says to buy a stupid weak item for like 2 mil. And the other one is selling it for like 1 mil. You go buy the item that is really worth around 300k just to sell it back to the first person. Then they both log off.
