Approximate Cost of "Item Mall" Items in USD

For fun (read: a break from work-related research) I've decided to put together a small list of the cost in U.S. Dollars of the items in the new Item Mall. The conversion is actually a simple 10x multiplier, but it helps being able to reference the approximate cost of something in native currency. If there are any typos or miscalculations, please PM me. I may err at 0400. :P

Note: For the purpose of this guide, I will use "~" as an approximation symbol.

= Important Information =

Cost of Silk in KRW / USD.
List of available items and prices (please note the various categories).

= Overview of USD to Silk Conversion =

According to this page, the price of silk in Korean Won (KRW) can be seen below. These prices must be converted to U.S. Dollars (USD) and are subject to currency conversion rates. You can use a currency conversion calculator here. Please note that the values retrieved from this calculator cannot be used for any official purpose.

50 Silk = 5,000 KRW ~ 5.00 USD
100 Silk = 10,000 KRW ~ 10.00 USD
300 Silk = 30,000 KRW ~ 30.00 USD

The conversion rate for in-game currency is:

1 Silk = 100 KRW * exchange rate to USD = ~ $.10 USD
More simply, divide the cost of item in silk by 10 to get the cost in dollars, or multiply by 10 to get the cost in cents.
I.e. 10 silk = 1 dollar or 100 cents (1.00 dollars).
Or for the ultra-simple algebra explanation: Move the decimal one digit to the left (on Silk to get USD)!

Warning! The prices of these items / price of silk / USD-KRW exchange rate may change! Verify the current values before you make a purchase!
Exchange rate will be applied next business day (Korean time: 10:00 AM)

Here are the approximate costs of some of the items (those I think will be most popular) in the item mall as of 03/14/06. If you want the rest, please simply use the conversion.

= Items - Expendables =

- Skill Reallocation Potion x5 -
28 silk ~ $2.80 ($0.56 each)

- Character Skin Change Scroll -
80 Silk ~ $8.00

- 4-Week SILVER Time Service Ticket -
95 Silk ~ $9.50

- 4-Week GOLD Time Service Ticket -
130 Silk ~ $13.00

- HP Recovery Potions (Large) x1000 -
50 Silk ~ $5.00 ($0.005 each, or 2 for $0.01)

- MP Recovery Potions (Large) x1000 -
50 Silk ~ $5.00 ($0.005 each, or 2 for $0.01)

- Quiver (Arrows) x10000 -
8 Silk ~ $0.80 ($0.0008 each, or 125 Arrows for $0.01)

- Global Chat x11 -
14 Silk ~ $1.40 (~$0.13 each)

= Items - Pet =

- Monkey Summoning Scroll -
88 Silk ~ $8.80

- Revival Clock -
48 Silk ~ $4.80

= Conclusion =

Gold XP scroll and monkey:
~$13.00 + ~$8.80 = ~$21.80 (more than WoW's flat rate at $15/month). Keep in mind that you can only purchase Silk in increments of $5, so to get a pet and double XP you'll spend $25 during the first month (and $20 during the second, if you save the extra silk).

If you decide to buy from the Item Mall be aware of how much you're spending. I highly suggest you review your spending summary at least once every two weeks if you purchase Silk on a regular or frequent basis and set a responsible quota for yourself so you can exercise healthy gaming / spending habits.

VERY good guide. A lot of people don't realize how much they spend when things cost *so little*.

A monkey is really expencive man. come on, 8.80 dollar for a monkey in a game ... you can better buy a hamster in real life for that =P and what does the monkey do, it just walks after ur character and picks up some drops ... not worth the price ( my opinion +) )

Some say it's not worth the $8 or $9....IMO, it's worth every bit. It's all in how you look at it, I guess (and havin' a job doesn't hurt either).

Or it's a case of being lazy.. if I really wanted a monkey, I'd sell two packs of global chats, then I'd have enough to buy myself a monkey in game. That's only 28 silk compared to 88(?) silk.
