Learning about Alchemy. You can do it. Pics.

I've seen a lot of posts in the past about alchemy, and how some people can never +5 their items or weapons.

Alchemy can be very frustrating, but at the same time very rewarding. Alchemy is one of the better things about silkroad that I like. Much like gambling it is very addicting, and its always something to do when your bored of grinding.

70 levels of silkroad, and I still can't wait to get out of work and play.

So today I will share with you - my alchemy.

I'm not rich and none of my protectors are SOS, but thats besides the point. (Shout out to all players who are legit and poor! :D )

I see a lot of people say they've used 80 some elixirs and don't have a +4 weapon. I see a lot of people complaining that they have used 6 astrals and their weapon always fails.

Alchemy 101

The biggest secret to alchemy is right in the help file, as follows:

Image

If I purchase an item, and it goes 1-2-3 very easily, I know it can go to +4.

If the item fails on 2's and 3's, you know its going to be difficult to get +4.

If the item goes 1-2-3-4 easily, I know the item can go to +5.

If it was real easy to go +5, this item has potential to be +7.

If it took 50 elixirs to get to +4, your going to have a very hard time getting +5.

I think people lose a lot of money because they just won't admit the item has bad luck. Eventually, its time to put the item down and try a different one. There are reasons some people get +5 on the first try, and you couldn't get it with 80 elixirs.

Maybe it takes a couple tries, but I usually get it. Sometimes I buy items cheap and +5 them just to sell them again.

My chest and gloves would never go +5. I replaced them. Chest went on second try. Gloves went on fourth try.

Both of my rings went on first try. But my earrings didn't. After a couple million in elixirs, I replaced them, and +5'ed my new ones third try.

My +7 bow went about like this. 1-2-3-1-2-3-1-2-3-1-2-3-4-4-5-6-7.

Here are some examples of very rewarding moments.

Image

Why won't your item go +5 ?

-The item has poor luck, and probably won't go +5 easily.
-Some items were never meant to be +5
-You have no discipline, and you crammed 40 elixirs in the window and lost them
-You told yourself it has to go eventually' which is only somewhat true.

Will you +5 my item?

No. (^_~)

Lucky

Don't think anyone knows how lucky 'truly' works. Neither do I. But heres a hypothetical theory.

You fail. You use a lucky. Its not enough - you still fail.
You fail. You use a lucky. Its enough - and succeeds.
You succeed. No lucky used.

This *tries* to explain the lucky phenominum:

Succeed without remove
Succeed with remove
Fail with remove.

The Goods

I rarely share info about my character... and I really wanted to finish the +5 set. But the cap might go up and these will be sold. So heres my current works. Shoulders and boots unfinished, because they suck.

Following that, a project I just finished (glaive). It took 4 astrals to make it +5, so I dont think Im going to try +7.

you'd be surprised how noticible the difference is to a pure str when you raise your mag balance. i know strs who have added several hundred dmg just by adding a shit-ton of int to their gear.

Yeah. I'm pure str, I know how much it adds. Its a lot more than Str, actually.

lol guys i was thinking about it and lol i found that ppl who spend more real money on the game most likely have better luck with alchemy than people who dont use money in the game. lol look at Huy Fong in contrast to lets say... umm.. me..

INT is good yes

I see lots of people with INT5 or STR5 on all gears, 400 HP x 3.

Dunno how..... those stones like 2m, 1.5m and 1m a pop

6 stamina stones fail in a row. So I can forget about having 400 on anything.

Lots of real good advice and experience there man Image

It is nice if we can learn these things from someone else's doings.

Funny thing for me was that after going like 40-50 weap elixers to go +3 to +4 once I got there, astralled it it got to +5 next elixer.

Although I am not argueing against your experiences here Ryoko, just adding mine Image

Hehe well written and explained and I have to say these two things are the key in all the money lost. Its like playing cards at a casino and thinking you HAVE to win at least once right?

And also, I want to share a similar story about the ability to suceed (hidden) of an item. My SoS 64 spear failed to +7 at least 6-7 times even though getting to 7 wasnt too hard with it...it didnt even go to +8 once! I switch to glavie and I fail once to +8, suceed one, the next try I got +9

Alchemy is an addiction :D

This is so true!
My last spear was the suk then!!
I tried taking it to +3 like 5 times -__- Then just made it +1 and gave up lol.
I dunno about my current spear though :\ was too afraid to screw it up so i left it +2 O.o goin to try +3 it later today.

My lvl 32 spear on the other hand was SUPER easy to +3 and +4!
Got it to +4 on the 1st try and tried +5 on it and failed.
Got it back to +3 on my 1st try again  so all this must be true.

Can you imagine getting a lvl cap sos weapon with bad luck? T___T oh god all those millions on a peice of crap >:O

I always thought that alchemy success depends on the item. Never knew it. Well, I never read the help file. :D Now I know that my thoughts were right.

And I think you're right. When an item just doesn't want to go well, then get rid of it and try a new one. Otherwise our hair will turn grey earlier as we want. :)

T_T so each item has a fixed probability of success T_T. Never knew that

I actually believe more towards when you make a character, luck is generated with the character. When I had an SOS glaive, I tried forever to +7 (280 USD in astral), then I traded it for an SOS spear. The guy that got the glaive took it to +7 on his first try, attempted to +8, failed. Then took to +7 again, on his second try. I know a couple people in my server that i go to, just for them to preform alchemy. And they usually get 100% success, it's ridiculous, they are confident it'll work too.

For some wierd reason, I seem to be very lucky with criticals. I have made about 5 items have over 60% crit in my first stone. This is what I believe anyway, the every character is generated differently in luck. When I +7 my spear, I decided to switch it to my other account, low and behold, it worked in the 500 silk I bought on the second try. Now I use that account for everything alchemy, and it works. I got all my items except 1 to +5 in my FIRST try. I love it.

But if I take my Billion character, I can guarentee you that if I sat there with unlimited astral/immortal, and wep elixirs (lucky powders) I would never get +9 or maybe even +7.

That's my take on it, i'd agree with you Ryoko but I have seen way too many items people have struggled with, then traded, and the alchemy then went success right away. I also wouldn't take Joymax's word for it in that help guide, because it's Joymax.

Glaive was a project, something to do, something to work on and something to ultimately sell.

I had a 64+5 Crit 11, which I gave to a member for his 64+3 Crit 12.

Added the blues and +5, then resold.

I was gonna pass it down, but if cap goes up, economy will change.

Next project is my brothers blade.

Nice topic man, I always suspected individual items had their own % rates of working, but didnt remember seeing that in print before. There have been a few things I figured "had to work eventually", and they did, but when it was all said and done, it wasn't worth what it cost.
