Guide to playing SRO at school

okay first of all, don't play SRO at school, read and study and do your homework and stuff. That said, I go to college and already know most of the crap I learn in my computer classes so I like to play SRO :D it takes FOREVER to install the game then about 3x longer to patch it even if I have the installer on my USB flash drive. The installer is still 1.001 and we're on version 1.061 now so who wants to wait for 60 patches to download and install? Instead, I have an untested solution that's worked in the past for other very similar games (made by the same people even). The catch is you need a 2GB or larger USB flash drive (aka thumb drive, jump drive, whatever). Then open it in my computer at home and make a new folder called SRO. Then download and run the installer for SRO and when it asks what directory to install it in, change it from C:\program files\silkroad\ to the drive letter of your USB drive \silkroad\
For example, mine would be I:\silkroad\ because I have 2 hard drives, 2 cd drives, and 2 virtual CD drives :P but yours is probably G:\silkroad\ The game should install fine and take up about 1.2 GB (which is why I can't test it on my 1 GB usb drive) Then run it and it will patch and you're pretty much set. They recently set up a roaming profile for your quickslots too instead of putting them in the registry so when you log in, everything should be just like at home :) At school, just plug in the drive on a PC, open drive letter:\silkroad\silkroad.exe and tada, you're all set :) Now go study or you're grounded! :P :P

if your school has a half-way competent IT staff, they wouldn't allow processes like gameguard to run on their computers.

My school has very decent computers. They just don't know what the hell SRO is. WoW is blocked though.

LOL. Is it really necessary to play SRO on your school computer? Is it really worth all that trouble??

i dunno, your school probably has wireless, just use your laptop if you have one if you muuust get ur SRO fix. =P

my sch is wireless but playing with the labtop is impossible as the school internet will block the game from starting.

myeah... well i have all these really boring colleges, and some workgroups bore me to death aswell. At those times it's just nice to get your laptop, sit in the back of the class and plzy some sro.

(Untill the teacher asks you a question, about anything he just said.)

"Good" thing my program requires us to have notebooks.

I play SRO whenever I want wherever I want at my school.

If you're going to play sro all day at school...just drop out...stay home all day...save gas...save taxpayer money...and play at home on a nice comp.

full time gaming is a hard profession.... it may seem easy *just like game testing* but when it all comes down to it, its a pretty demanding job... just like all jobs

If I didn't think the computers at my school would create an intra-dimentional rift when I tried to play it, I'd do that w/ my 4 giggy.

But- it takes a forkbomb only 53 recorded processes to conk out. repeatedly tested. THAT is one useless machine. (don't ask why i was forkbombing computers.... i couldnt play SRO :-) and we learn Visual Basic. It's evil.)

I think I forgot to mention that most schools with half a brain do block the port(s) that SRO uses :P And as for playing at school, that's why I said not to you kids, lol. But as for me, college is a bit different. When i sit down in Web Dev 2 and the teacher says "today's a work day for your projects" and my magic 8 ball script is working just fine already and there's no point in going back home because I have another class right after that one, I want something fun to do :P I don't know if "fun" is the right word for playing SRO on computers with built in Intel Extreme graphics instead of graphics cards though, but it's okay cuz they at least have 2.6 GHz or more processors and 1 GB of RAM :P

I'm gonna try it as soon as my laptop arrives

They force me to come to college 5 days a week from 8:45 to 16:00.. while at most I need 1 day to do all my homework for the rest of the week. (I'm in ict or something dunno it's the same in English.. but anyways I have to work a lot with comps and they try to learn things to me now that I already did 4 years ago )

I know they blocked wow, but.. who knows ^^

lol, play sro at school !!!!~~~~ :D

nah, i am not at school anymore, not even Uni, im working these days. however, it a bit hard to player sro at school, coz you have to play with now sound, worrying some teacher is gonna come around you anytime, and you have to alt+tab to a Word document or something.

just think about it, when you're using your Zerk to fight a giant or something really strong, then your teachers comes around, and you alt+tab, 2 mins, later, you alt+tab it back to sro, and you'll find yourself dead and loose 60k exp.....lol

that's another good thing about college :D we can use your worktime however you want and the teacher doesn't care because we're all responsible enough to do our homework when it's necessary and get it done on time (or else we fail)
Hmm maybe you should see my next guide, how to play SRO at work :P lol jk, might as well call that one how to get your ass fired :D :D

*ahem* i had to register just to reply to this.

He didn't say he was gonna play all day at school. He said during computer class he would play. Save taxpayer money? Taxpayers don't pay for college. Just because he wants to play for 1 period doesn't mean he's clearly wasting "tax payer" money on an education.

holy crap ppl are dumb lol. Thanks cobra :P I'm in COLLEGE and didn't qualify for financial aid this semester so I'm not wasting anyone's money. Btw the class I usually play in I just got 110/100 on the 9 week project because I'm the best programmer in the class (and the world :D) btw I installed Unreal Tournament GOTY edition on my Linux and MS Server 2003 servers in web server admin class lol.
