you use elements to make stones yes. but the 1st and 2nd degree tabs you
can npc since most farm from 16 on - thats 3rd degree or lvl3 stones.
to get elements, you must destroy items or buy them from other players. the
stuff that drops from monsters, the stuff of which you have no idea what to do
with it, is how you get elements.
buy some destroyer rondo's at the npc woman (right of the herbalist, dunno
what shes called. she sells jewelry too). now open the alchemy screen with
Y, put in the destroyer rondos in the left box and all the items you want to
destroy in the right box. now press FUSE ALL and you will get your elements.
normal items can also be rondo'ed that way, but you will almost never know
exactly what elements you get from it.
