Well, all I can say pure str archer sucks. I have one at lvl 71 (was at the lvl cap a while before it raised and just have not been able to get in game much the last 2 months). The pure str archer will own a spear nuker hard, but will lose to a int s/s half the time, and to a pure str blader all the time. Might get lucky against a glaiver. Will be converting to glaive, re-rolling with bow....
jadekiss, I know both Wind and Samara, have seen them in action first hand, and you are right, their 80:80 builds are solid, and without much help from alchemy too. They have the most Yarkon kills on Aege, and though they crit less often than I do, they make up for it in normal damage. Wind is probably more widely known, but according to him, it was Samara's meticulous calculations from observations that they came up with this build.
The 'not enough hp' argument against this build was the most humorous. I mean come on! 18k is not enough hp, because a double-crit will kill you! Do you hear anyone argue that the spear hybrid is a weak build because you do not have enough hp? Wind/Samara's bow build will not have the hp of a tanker, granted, but that is the sacrifice you make for greater over-all damage. The difference being that you will have more hp than an hybrib spear, and more overall damage than a pure str archer, and being able to hold your own in PvP better than a pure str archer. What more could an archer want?
Jadekiss had tried numorous other bow builds, had made a pure str archer, and had the same sense for the build that countless others have. I have known a lot of pure str archers and almost every single one of them have switched to either glaive or blade.
You guys remember Fly, don't you? Almost a year ago after writing his pure build guide, he had pm'ed me telling me after I hit lvl 60, to switch to glaive becasue I will not be able to do much damage after lvl 60 with the bow. He was right.
My glory days for my archer were in the 6th degree and 7th degree gear. I could kill someone 2-3 levels higher than me in 1 or 2 hits. The pure str archer seemed to be a very strong build against other builds (pure and hybrid). That ended for me after getting to the 8th degree. But not just me, but countless others at my level, migrated to other str weapons.
For those asking about skills for this build, it is pretty much the same for a pure str. You want the ant-devil series, the multi-arrow combos, demon arrow, and the soul arrow series. Fire is your main force, using the imbue (fire river force), flame-body series, fire protection series, fire shield series (in combination with alchemy if you want status immunity) . You don't want or need the nukes, your mag balance still will not be high enough for those to make a difference, besides, nuke defeats the purpose of the bow. Get lightning for grass/phantom walk, and also for concentration (increase your parry), and must pierce series (increasing your mag damage), and the passive.
You can get some ice for some phys protection, but Wind has stated to me, that he felt he had enough phys protection without it.
All in all, yes this is just a game. Does seem to be lost on many of you. Treat people with some decency without trying to look for it for yourself so hard. It will go a long way.
