Complete Thief's Guide by Hellsharpt
Rusty007 wrote:I have a quick question, how do you activate thief mode?
Is it simply putting on your thief suit?
Why I ask is that I put on the thief suit and a guy that I know said he could still see my nickname etc. Although he was in my party and he is in my guild - is that why?
Thanks
LOL any person can see your name while you are in a suit/flag or not

The guide is the most complete you can find in any site but if you really want to know what happend if you don't pay or if you are killed for a hunter i will tell you:
If you are killed by a hunter you are "arrest" and you have to pay a time and money penalty.
If you don't pay you can't do jobs even if the time has reached 0 and your arrange points as well

The fine varies with your level, a levle 40 will pay around 60k. Also you will not be able to do any job (once you take off your thief suit (hint hint)) for 3 hours.
The nice part is that your arrange is reset to zero immediately, rather than having to wait for many days.
Hunters get a good amount of hunter experience for arresting (aka killing) you. Many times you can offer to let a hunter kill you if they will pay the fine.
Also remember that if you are wanted any hunter can see the red ! at any time even if you aren't jobbing. And as long as you are wanted they can arrest you at any time not in town.

i'm a lil confused. while wearing thief suit and running around with a horse with loot, i killed a hunter and got PK status. so when i try to recall with bandit scroll, it wont let me cuz of my status...
am i missing something here? how else am i supposed to get back to bandit town? actually, im not sure if it was a hunter or trader. all i remember is he was wearing some flag thing on his back.

The only guides that are stickied are ones needed for quick references like monster maps and the quest list, the rest of the really good guides are found in the "Links to Usefull Guides Here" post along with this one (which is listed under the jobs section)
Very good guide
thanks hellsharpt

As your scroll nears the last 30 – 45 seconds get on your transport. It has a lot of hp, so if you are attacked you may be able to survive better. If you have a 3 star or better it is advisable to have help. A double spawn with cold bladers will ruin your day. Also should you die your loot is hidden and you can go back. Some people will sit in the middle of the road waiting for other multistars so they can attack and fill their transport, this takes some guts, but can be effective. Once your scroll runs out, congratulations you are in thief town.
I can attest to this so much.
Let me unravel a story that will also include a tip...
There was a job war at DW east gate. Which happens often...
I guess to attract theives some trader dumped about 20+ stacks of horseshoes on the ground. Maybe he was really trading, because he tried to pick it up and his fire bull died by theives.
There were times when theives ruled the gate, other times hunter.
Well, about that guy that had his loot on the ground.
I had the balls to take it, and run to my hiding spot. (Not telling, but its awesome ^^)
It was 5*
The first two theif spawns I survived somehow.
The next one...I died.
I went back picked up the loot.
Died.
Died.
So I got some help and only picked up 4*
When I got back to DW east there was more loot on the ground...about 6 stacks.
Obviously I took it and went to my hiding spot.
It was 25k, 2*.
Thing is a hunter killed me on my hiding spot.
I had a friend to check if he was there.
He took off his hunter suit...
I took it and made it to theif town.
Now.
Things I noticed:
The more * the more theif spawns you get...which is cruel.
4*+ you BETTER get help b/c a blader will "ruin your day." You should know by now to auto-pill cold. The blader's shield usually have a high BR. :/ And also, for newbie theifs, the NPC thieves will ALWAYS spawn your lvl (grey) or orange. So thats another problem.
Now the tip:
If you master force, use the harmony therapy.
The theives will won't be able to touch your transport b/c of it. (or you!)
With harmony therapy you can probably take a 5* since the theives go outside the circle.
And yes, sometimes you get 1 more NPC thief then your star #, IE with 5*, sometimes you'll get 6 theives. :<
Just my tips. ^______^
And yes I just made it to level 2 thief.
On server Aege -

lvl 27 "Icey_lolhax" hybrid blade/sword (abandoned)
lvl 13 "iHax" nuker (farming)

Great guide. One thing not covered that a noob like me is missing (am only lvl 30, no job yet but just joined a guild and found out it is a thief guild so figured I better study up on how to be one:P)...This all seems a bit complex, but I guess it becomes obvious as time goes on.
I get that if you are a trader on a run, NPC thieves will spawn. What I don't understand is NPC thieves spawning to attack thieves; I was under the impression they were on the same team, so to speak, and player & NPC thieves go after the trader.
Is it that the NPCs attack the trader and then if you are there suited up and kill the trader and grab the loot - then the NPC thieves will spawn and attack you too? If so, then the spawned thieves are activated by the transport with goods - regardless of the job of the player in control of it. Is this correct? Sorry for such a noob and long question, but just learning this whole job stuff.

This guide was pre-legend iv client update. A lot of this has changed and could use some updating. You can only suit or flag up in town. Now you need to thief suit up and go riding out looking for loot or traders. There is a chance of getting attacked by hunters as you head out of town or somewhere along the rode where before you could equip and UNEQUIP your suit anywhere anytime. Not anymore.
NPC Thieves attack traders and NPC hunters attack thieves neither of which can attack a non-job player or the opposite job (npc hunter wont attack hunters, npc thieves wont attack thieves). Before, once the npc thieves dispatched the trader they came after the closest thing to them most often and innocent grinder or the thief who killed the trader ....
oh do be on the lookout for the occasional npc thief or hunter using lightning bow you will still take splash damage even if you are non-jobbed and just grinding.
Those are probably two of the biggest things I think of.
Oh also: Level 41 and up traders can be attacked by thieves even if they are only a 1*...someone else can maybe fill in the rest.

this guide is really outdated. You need 10k to join a job (lv 20) prices go up the higher lv you are.
