Basic TS2 & Ventrilo Tutorial

Don't know if this is appreciated here or not but here are 2 tutorials for TS2 & Ventrilo, for beginners that have never used them.

Ventrilo Guide

Ok this will get you up to speed with ventrilo.

Download the 2.3.0 client, DO NOT touch the beta.

Install, open it up.

Section 1: Ok wtf?

Where it says username, click arrow next to it.
New, enter a name & stuff.

Server - Arrow, then enter details

Bindings - You figure it out

Section 2: Setup

Voice tab:

Top box allows you to talk, unticked means you disable your right to talk.

Second option allows push to talk as opposed to voice activation.

Third option is for making a push to talk bind to a game controller or joystick I think,

Fifth box makes a sound when you activate the talk key & then release it, disable that if it is annoying or makes static sounds.

Hotkey - This is the key you hold to talk with, click in there then hit a key.

Silence time & sensitivity is for voice activation, you ain't using that though.

Test with:

Test what you sound like, codec choice & format is how much bandwidth (higher = better quality).

Monitor - Gives a number when you talk, the higher the number than the louder you are.

Test - You test a segment of speech then hear it played back.

Output device - Use your soundcard with direct sound or the default wave mapper?

Input device - Same?

Amplifiers:

Outbound - make yourself quiter or louder than default.

Inbound - Same but when you hear others as opposed to how you sound.

Playback & recording - Opens the control panel sound settings where you can change microphone output & other stuff.

Events:

When things happen like someone joins or you switch channels you can choose to let the server notify you.

wave file - Preset sound file plays for whichever event happened.

Text to speech - The server uses microsoft sam's voice to say the letters as words.

Custom wave - Add your own sound.

Nothing - No sounds are played.

Binds/Speech/Network/Misc/Global:

You can work these ones out yourself.

Section 3: Current version, requests & credits.

Ok as you can see, this one is not as in-depth as the TS2 one but well I can't be arsed, besides I feel ill right now & need to go eat.

If you need any of the other stuff explained or what the hell you do once you actually connect to a server then request it here & I'll add those parts too.

If you think this guide sucks & can't understand it then screw you buddy.

Teamspeak 2

Ok I've decided to make a tutorial on how to setup TS2 properly seeing as some ppl have never used it before:

First off it's Teamspeak 2, yes this is the second edition, I heard the original Teamspeak sucked, wouldn't know though, TS2 is the short term.

Go to - http://www.goteamspeak.com

Downloads, download the client for your operating system.

Install it.

Now open it.

Section 1: Adding a server & typing in your username
Click connection -> Connect

Right click servers -> Add server

Label - Type a name in here so you remember what that TS2 server is
Server Address - Type the IP - 69.162.144.183:8668
Nickname - The name you want ppl to see when you are connected
Anonymous/Registered - Start out anonymous, once I have allowed you to register, you tick registered then type in the username & password you registered on the server.

Server password - Leave blank

Login name - Your login name (Once registered)
User password - Your password (Once registered)

Auto-reconnect - Tick this, if you get dc/ed then you don't need to manually connect again.

Now click connect at the bottom right of screen.

Section 2:Settings

Ok now before you connect you'll probably want to set up your output volume & other things.

Click settings -> Sound input/output settings

Output volume - Slider bar, can't remember if it makes the ppl on TS2 quieter/louder for you or makes you quieter/louder.

Well fiddle with it if it's too loud/quiet for you while in-game.

Voice send method:

Voice activation - When you set your mic to a minimum lvl if your voice or any sound goes above that trigger lvl then ppl will hear you, try not to use this method as it usually end sup w/ broken speech or hearing your breathing. Only recommended for experienced TS2 users or ppl w/ a headset so the mouthpiece is near to mouth.

Voice activation level - Use the slider to change where your voice is picked up, whisper & we will hear everything, shout & you'll have to yell to be heard.

Push to talk - The better option.
Click set then type a key, it will bind so say you set up ctrl as your keybind, when you hold it down you will transmit, talk while holding the key down.

Local test:

Here you can test what you sound like & if you think it sounds clear etc...

Test codec - Default 5.1 sucks, set it to 25.9 speex

Hit "activate local test mode" then talk or hold push to talk key & talk.

Key settings: Set up binds here.

Options: Extra stuff you really don't need to bother with.

Section 3:In the server

Ok now you're in, you'll see your name & a green dot.

Double left click on a room to join, if there is a password on a room then type it in & enter.

Right click yourself or other players for a list of options, not may available though lol.

Click self at the top & you can mute yourself & stuff.

Once I have allowed you to register click "register with server", now hit connect again & change anonymous to registered & type in your login name & password.

Send text message to player - You can send a message obviously, good for if you just joined & don't have a microphone.

Ok don't know if this guide will be helpful to anyone & if it's layed out very well.

Should be good for TS2 novices, any questions then ask.

Screenshots would be useful for this type of guide. I wrote a TS guide once, but my HD ate it. *mehs* Good info, just make it a bit easier to read.

I've been using TS and Vent and they work nice for game coordination and just for staving off boredom talking with people. I use both, got a TS server running for me and my friends cause we're usually all on different Vent servers for our WoW guilds.

use push button to speak for better sound quality and so you don't hear zooming computers , angry moms / gf's etc etc.
TS is way more user[n00b] friendly than ventrilo. Ventrilo also has this robot voice to say Member left , teamspeak has a girl to say it

There is 1 I haven't put on as it has vent' server address.

Ok seeing as my guild has a ventrilo server now, I no longer have any reason to keep my TS2 server as "invitation only".

So if anyone from any server wants to connect to it then here is the address:

i did not read it but the key to teamspeak for first time users is to insure you mic is turn on.

open the properties to the speaker in the bottom right corner of your desktop. if you see mic as soon as it is opened click the mute tab, then goto properties at the top left of the window, and select recording, insure a check box is in mic and click ok.

now turn the mic all the way up, click the box marked select, then open advanced and click mic boost.

There that little bit of info will help at least 90% of the issues with people saying they can not talk on TS.

Thanks for that, I forgot to add that mic' must be ticked, slider bar up & boost on.

Boost is not really needed if you use a headset where the mic' is merely a few centimeters from your mouth.

Don't know if I already said or not, I ain't checking the guide, if you want to send a message to someone on TS2, right click their name & send message to player or whatever it says.
