If you're over level 20 you can kill other players over level 20 (try to, anyways). Just hold ALT and click on 'em.
If you attack first you'll become an offender, which will make your name turn purple. During this time you can be killed and your killer will not recieve murder status. If you wait a bit (I think it's a timer, not sure), your offended status will wear off.
If you kill someone who's name is white, you will become a murder and will have to grind off the penalty (or be killed a few times). If you're in murderer state you have an increased chance of dropping items when you're killed.

When you have murder status, dying for any reason has much larger penalties. You lose more XP and can drop items to the ground.
To remove murder status, kill many many monsters until it goes away.
Best option is to not become a murderer in the first place. If you want to PvP, either get a cape and fight people with capes on, or be a hunter/thief and look for the other job to kill.

im really not happy with the pvp rules in sro :S
in any game i played with this far, anyone who striked back, also became an offender(i mean his name turned purple). there is simply no way to punish ksers and its driving me mad. i dont mean hitting the same 1-2 mobs then me. i mean ksing big time. following me for 5-10 minutes attacking whatever i aim for.
it would be all so much easyer if anyone whos involved in a pvp fight would have his name's color changed
im tyred of youngsters telling me to "..... off" when i threat them after asking about 5 times in a polite way

personally, i disagree. if someone starts wailing on me, i think i deserve the right to defend myself from them without penalty. i actually had someone who was killstealing ME attack me, because i did more damage and got the drop(it wasn't even anything good, just some random equip). so, was i just supposed to sit there and die? of course not. i smacked him back, he ran, and i had to go berserk just to catch up to him. but i did. and he lost experience. should i be the one penalized? i think not.
i mean if you fight back, your name turns purple as well, whoever wins wont get any penatly. thats the idea of pvp. as it is now, whoever strikes first has already lost. if you dont fight back, your name stays white and if he dont stops he gets a deserved penatly for killing a whitename

you don't need to be 20 in order to hold ALT and click... do you?
Alt and Click is just another way of attcking rather than dbl clicking on the person/animal

so you're saying that the loser is penalized, while the winner is not?
so in my example, a guy KS'ed me, then got pissed and attacked for no reason. i defend myself. let's say that i lose. i'm penalized? that's horrible. or are you saying that i should have not fought back? and just died? and lost experience instead?
if that were the way it was, you'd see level 40-50 players going around attacking lower-levels all the time, because they know they won't get a penalty if they win the fight.

I think you got it wrong geobot. If the person attacks you and you dont attack back and he kills you, you odnt get penalized he does.

That's CTRL-Click

If you or the target is below 20 you'll get an error message. When you hit 19 you'll get a message from the in-game help file explaining that you can PvP at level 20.
Also, I don't think you lose as much XP when you're killed by a player (compared to being killed by a mob), unless you have murder / aggressor status.

omg no!
ok. two guys. A and B. A is attacking B, his name turns purple. B is not acting, name stays white. A kills B and gets a murder penatly(this is PK).
but when B is attacking back, both guys will have purple names. get it? so they wont get any penatly regardless who wins. (PVP) the winner will loose his purple name in a few seconds and and the dead guy is, well..dead
if any third person interacts in the fight his name turns purple as well. simple. like C is attacking B. or if D is healing A they also get flagged.

ok, i understand what you mean now. and it doesn't sound like a horrible idea, but it still has some odd points to it.
yea, people KSing is annoying, but if the only response you can think of is to kill them for it, well, maybe you deserve a penalty. besides, you'd probably still end up with a murderer status, because all they have to do is not fight back to make you a PKer. and even if they DID fight back, if they kill you, you lose 2% exp.
so that means there's 3 possible outcomes from attacking someone. one, they fight back and you win, and all is good. two, they fight back and you lose, meaning you lose exp. three, they don't fight back, you kill them, and are now penalized. 2/3 of those are bad... why take chances?

lol, Here's what I do.
If a player keep KSing me, I'll try to speak politely to him/her to stop it. If I get no response, I consider it is a bot and kill hiim/er right away. I don't care with my PK status, coz I already have a spot to hunt monsters and discard my red name. =)

where is it? would be fun to make a murderer party and work off penatlies together. who knows. maybe there is a party bonus for loosing those points?
anyhow. i dont mean i will kill (attack) everyone who comes even near my mobs. but i used to attack big time-ksers.
talking to people nicely: yes, i always try so first. but if im playing for 2-3 hours and EVERY giant i try to kill is ksed from a different person (cos everyone seems to think giants are free for all) that would mean i have to do the nice chat for at least 50 mins every day
so im usually really fed with it all after i had to ask guy number 53 to stop attacking the giant plz.

Exactly, allowing consensual PvP where both parties want it, and also allowing non-consensual PvP where only 1 party wants it, but with a penalty. Freedom of choice is good.

but in the case of non-consensual pvp, both sides still would get penalized,
even if only one fought. the attacker would get murder status, and the
non-fighter would die, losing experience. now, i could see changing the
system, but only if they did away with the 2% penalty for death(not from
mobs, but from people)

My biggest concern regarding "PK" is I don't want the grief of XP loss and possible equipment forfeiture just because some high level nitwit thinks it would be fun to arbitrarily attack my level 20 character fighting Devil Bugs. It's already sore enough a penalty in PvE, adding non-consensual PvP in addition to that is over-the-top in my little care-bear world. Now if the current PK system has taken this into consideration, and I get a reprieve from any significant loss by just standing still and letting some joker wail on me... okay, it's a nuisance, but I can live with that. (I'm still concerned however what happens if my fatality is due to a mob getting in the final blow? For example, a level 60 pounds on me until my health is drastically reduced, then a white tiger or something kills me. Then what? Is he/she still a murderer?)
In regards to "KSing," I truly appreciate the frustration and desire to "punish" the offender(s). But honestly, if you're not willing to become a murderer in the process, doesn't that make you equally as bad? In my opinion, you can't justify having consequences for "KSing" and not having consequences for "PKing."

I think installing an assigned hit non ks system would be nice. First to hit the mob, gets to kill it and gets the drop while other people can't attack it. I know what you're thinking, someone would around and hit everything once, but no. If 10 seconds pass and the guy the mob is assigned to does not attack, it's anyones again. Just my 3 cents.
