Guides n Tuts Suggestions

Post by cin »

Hai dears and welcome to the Guides n Tutorials section of SRF :).

Because of our huge database of guides, some of these guides may be hard
to find. We are currently working hard to make the forum better for our
members, and part of this work is listening to our members. If you feel
that this section can be improved in any way (no, u guys are not getting new
mods for it
:x), then let ME or SM-COUNT know, so we can work on it.

Oh, and do note that you're still not allowed to break the SRF RULES.

He's lying. Just pm cin, don't spam me >.>

I'd like to add that forum wide changes you want to see still belong to the Site Discussion subforum. Any changes and suggestions you'd like to see to implemetned the subforum itself or the mod policies is welcome here but this is not for complaining about individuals or specific guides, those can be taken care of through pms and/or the report button.

some of the guides are not in the stickys and should be as some very good guides are lost :(

also things such as "maps" could be posted in 1 single post such as
spawn maps
npc maps
mob maps
whole map

other wise your doing a very good job!
ps. pk2 sub forum <3 just not many people into pk2 as i would like :(

thanks mods!

i've wanted the subsections for a while now.
we finally decided to implement them. we just
need to copy the guides there now, and move
the subs to the bottom of the page, not the
top. the guides there are locked because they
are just the guides. the questions and comments
on the guides can go in the main forum.

i copied all the guides to the subsections.
the discussions in the guides will be kept in the main guides
n tutorials section. i'm writing up an announcement for this
matter as we speak.

We'll have a link at the top if you want to give comments to the guide in the main G&T sub-forum. The ones in the sub-sub-sections are locked because they are archives for quick search. To give thanks, input, and whatever comments soon a link at the top of each archive linking you back to the respondable guide will be provided. Well, that's assuming I'll get time to get off my ass and do some work...

I like many of the guides here and most of them are quite good.
But I have one suggestion for the build guides.
With the skill, make one code people have to follow like:

Important = green header or text
Optional = yellow header or text
Useless = red header or text
(Or other colours, but make one code)

It will make it easier when you are comparing multiple guides. If your not entirely focussed you might get confused by all the colours :P
So I think one colour code will be handy.

Forcing people to conform to a certain way for a voluntary service is not something I'd like to impose. For example, I don't like full image guides at all because images will get deleted and it is a hassel to edit so criticisms are often met with no action. But because people do these guides altruistically, it would be unwise to try and force them to do anything. If thier artisic instincts tell them to write everything in white, then so be it. (althought it may not get a sticky)

I symphathize with you that it may be easy to confuse information as it has happened to me on multiple occasions, but reliable guides will often have the information about skills in a neat, compact, summuarized fashion and the explanation should suffice for fast comparision.
