My reason for asking is simple, 6 days now hunting for that stolen sword, and I'm getting tired. On the off-chance I accidentally missed the drop, I would like to try cancelling the quest then taking it again.
If it's not possible then I'll hold onto the quest and hope that one day in a distant future the sword will drop and surprise me
if you've leveled a couple times since you got the quest, then the 18k exp
you get isn't really THAT important in the big picture, so i wouldn't worry too
much over it. i got tired of doing the quest, but forgot to abandon it. then
while i was doing the white tiger skin quest, a bandit happened to attack me,
and he dropped the stupid sword. so, it's up to you really.
but no, you can't take it up again once it's abandoned. like i said tho, is 18k exp really worth that much trouble?
i accidently aborted the third part of the white tiger skin quest when i had about 110 tiger skins. i simply reaccepted it and finished it then. anyhow the previusly gathered skins disapeared

Quit :/
Some quests allow abandonment, others don't. To test this, go into your Quests window and open the description for your current quest. Clicking the Abandon button will bring up a dialog along the lines of "Warning, you are about to abandon this quest", and then it will say whether you can or can't re-accept it from the questgiver. If it says you can't, think carefully before deciding to abandon it. Any extra exp is worth it, in my opinion.
Ta for the extra info, I've never ventured as far as clicking on the abandon button for any quest for fear that it might not even give a confirm window hehe

pretty sure it wouldn't matter. if you don't pick it up, then the quest still thinks it hasn't been completed, and it should drop for you again. i know that the "gather 100 of xxxx" quests work that way... if i need one more of something and suddenly get mobbed with a gang of creatures and 4 of them drop the quest item, it'll only let me pick up one, but that didn't stop the quest from letting 4 of them drop it even though i only needed one.

Yes, and quest items disappear after a while if they aren't picked up, don't they?
