Testers requested

A friend of mine decided he wants to build himself a pserver. He has a lot of experience with creating these kind of servers and editting the files, he is planning on adding a ton of custom things but he will need help testing. Is anyone interested in helping him/us out by testing on the server? It's no day job, just once in a while to see if everything works the way it's supposed to. You will be able to help create the servers content since he will be listening to any ideas you have.
If you are interested in helping out with this project send me a pm and we can work from there.

We haven't really set anything in stone yet. We just want to make sure the basis is working correctly and from there we, well he, can start editting pretty much anything we want.
@Tasdik: haha, nah buddy

@Avalanche: I'm not sure how it works but I figure it's like pk2 editting but then server side.

You can't customize the game itself that much. You can edit pk2, database and also the gameserver a little bit.

Meh so it is still a grind. Even with higher rates it doesn't matter because leveling is not fun like it is in other MMO's.. don't see a point to this :/

You can make other features for lvling up other than grinding.

If I am to believe my friend he says he is able to edit pretty much anything he wants in the game. It might not all be as easy but IMO it is possible.

^Some things aren't possible. To be able to edit literally everything, we need access to the SRO's source code.

You can't really edit everything in the client itself as far as I know. For example something I've wanted to change for years that's in the client: char selection location. And not much can be edited in the gameserver either atm.

From what I understood when he explained it to me he is able to change most things. But I am no expert so I have no clue what is possible and what's not. We'll see what can be changed once we arrive at that state.

You can change more if you have experience with reverse engineering, but you're still locked out of quite a few things. At this point someone should gather up every knowledgeable person that's worked on a pserver in the past and get them to collaborate on a made from scratch game. That would take quite some time though, and honestly probably wouldn't turn out that great.
If you want my honest honest opinion, we should just let SRO die. It had its time, its massively outclassed by even the crappiest recent MMO's and has nothing to offer anymore.

toast, i honestly believe sro has so much to offer still! it just needs to be ran by the right people, making a few changes to modernize a few features here and there etc
sro is still one of my fave mmo's! lol

It doesn't have anything to offer compared a modern game. The engine is far too limited.
GW2 v SRO - GW2 hands down no contest
Rift v SRO - Rift, no contest
Tera v SRO - Tera, even with it's annoying RNG
Graphics, gameplay, events, endgame content, unique content.
Silkroad has none of those. The bad current MMO's even have those.

It had unique content back in its time, JoyMax removed alot of it. And the graphics are simply a result of its age, but even though the graphics are outdated, I still like them.

To avoid any further derailment, lets stop talking about that here in this thread.
We are currently getting the basics ready after a forced hiatus. Anyone that applied will be getting a pm fairly soon, anyone that still wants to apply is free to do so.

Just want to interject one last thing. It's time was what, 8 years ago? It's amazing the game made it this far, but it's probably about time we just let it die.
That said, I'm still willing to volunteer my time, but my hopes for anything new are pretty much gone.
