I currently have lightning at lvl 30, and have a gap of 2 lvls, so, if I spend my sp without exceeding lvl 30 in any mastery, will it affect my sp farming?

What Valshar was asking was, if he spends his SP points without leveling his mastery, would it effect his SP farm rate. The answer is no, it wouldn't.
The amount of gap is really whatever your preference is. Some people prefer a 4 lvl gap, some prefer a 6 lvl gap, and some vary it from 4 to 9 depending on what they need and feel like doing. But, of course, a 9 lvl gap will give you the best return on SP points.

if your sp farming you should leave a 9 lvl gap.. highest mastery 9 lvl away from current lvl.
