If you really want to make the best of every situation, you might as well get a set of each. Personally I favour light armor because of the buffs it gives to str/int and defence.

Passives increase damage(?) and healing str.
/move.
OnT: Stick to light armor, you'll die less as cleric.

The most serious problem to going Bard/Cleric will be - NO PARTY.
For situations you can not find a party for, i.e. quests that others aren't doing, no one needs you at that moment, etc., it will SUCK to solo a Bard/Cleric. While many think this is a great party archtype, it is not. You can't really bard when you cleric and you can't really cleric when you bard. Also there is skill conflicts like Guard Tambour with any cleric heal = failed tambour (unless something has been fixed in the almost 1 year I have been away from the game).
If you really like Bard go Bard/Wiz, so at least when you have to solo you CAN. If you really like Cleric go Cleric/Wiz or Cleric/Warlock.
Now I realize this wasn't the point of your thread but I wanted to speak out against your choice before you realize your error in hindsight. Also if you are just gonna powerlevel this character then what I have said won't matter, but why would you powerlevel a purely party idea build in the first place?

I've never regretted choosing Light Armour for my bard/cleric. I feel the passive bonuses and extra defense outweigh the extra healing power that robes/faith give.
@Gokenzul: Solo as bard/cleric DOES NOT SUCK! (talking from experience here)
My reasons why:
- RD + tambour = int tank (I die very rarely, same level wizzies die much more often)
- fast cast (KS bots (chinese and euro (except rogues)) -- cast 2 nukes while they are still charging first skill)
- AOEs (not as powerful as wiz, but still AOEs)
Soloing as bard/cleric is a bit slower than a wiz because of the sheer power of the wiz but you will die less often and use almost no pots at all.

Some people enjoy packing sand, I am sure. Does that make it fun? Enjoyable?
I didn't die much if ever when I played my 1h euro warrior, does that mean it didn't SUCK when I had to solo? Nope.
If you can tolerate a very very very boring and slow grind as a Bard/Cleric compared to Bard/Wiz or Cleric/Wiz or Cleric/Warlock, go for it. To each there own however, I am right on target when I say:
Cleric/Bard - Bard/Cleric = SOLO SUCKAGE.
Oh...and I speak from experience too.

What experience might that be then?

I have no problem soloing as bard/cleric. Sure, I'm no wizard, but I still outgrind most Chinese builds, and best of all: I don't use any pots while I do it.

Irritating; I soloed as cleric mostly, using healing cycle the way I now use mana cycle. I bridged the levels to 40 as quickly as possible (no power farming) with minimal skills, and got the rest afterwards.

soloing bards are slow till you get most of your nukes. After that, you never have a problem. The higher you get, the faster the grind in relation to your lvl.
