more than one imbue and skills

can i have both lightning and fire imbues?
do skills (imbues, nukes, walls, etc.) have any effect on masteries?
eg i have lvl 30 fire mastery. will having 9 in first book fire imbue make a difference on how many masteries I have or will i still have only 30 masteries.
