Wizard subclass

I know there have been a lot of wizard topics lately, but I can't seem to decide what to pick. Right now I'm wizard, lvl 16, full INT, with only fire (at lvl 16). But i don't like the fact i can die in like 2-3 hits when facing same-lvl mobs.
So I thought about it and have thought of 3 options:

1) warrior subclass; so I can wear heavy armor, being able to take hits better. Will it make enough difference to invest (quite a lot) of sp into warrior to make it worthwhile?
2) cleric subclass; so I can heal myself/others, and wear light armor. Sounds like a more logical choice than warrior, seeing as both are 'magic-users', though i'm worried about not having time to heal myself, or that once i start healing myself i need to keep doing so to stay alive, and still not being able to kill the mob.
3) stick to wizard only and get Ice to slow them down.

Would like to have some input on the use of being able to wear heavy armor <=> survival for wizard/warriors, and if i can heal myself if i go cleric but still have time to also attack the mob.

Thanks in advance!
