deleveling?

I see the mention of deleveling to get a proper gap of skill mastery and level, or something about deleveing with int/str.
What is the mathematics behind this? I simply don't understand this - explain this to a noob ><!
quotes which I found the deleveling mentioned:
Rather than 4 gap it all the way, which isn't a bad idea, I zero gap to the next sos weapon lvl, delevel to 9 gap and sp farm enough points to get everything I want at current lvl. Then SPEND to zero gap then lvl up to the next sos lvl. Rinse repeat.
best build for archer would be fire str hybred. u should sp farm prolly about 10k at lvl 16 or 17. and then when u get to like lvl 42 de-lvl ur skills and farm some more.

It's all about sp. Sp, or skill points, are necessary to learn/upgrade skills. Often, player do not have enough skill points to expend on all the skills they want. Therefore, they have several options. One of which is to lvl with a gap. When you lvl with a 1 gap, you gain 10% less exp, but 10% more sp. 2 gap = 20% less exp and so forth. When you have a gap, you'll obviously level much slower, but gain more sp thru the process. Also, when you die, you only lose exp, but not sp. Some players will die on purpose to relvl to gain more sp.

I knew about the SP and dying, but that's it? I thought it was something more complex. Maybe I was just interpreting these sentences weird.
I know Ill have to die a lot because Im 16 and I have a +4 SoM bow and Im going through mobs and exp crazy even with a 9 level gap :O
Edit: like see, the last example quote, how do you 'delevel your skills'?

to delvl skills, either lvl to lvl 20 to do skill edit quest (available at potion seller in all 3 towns; you can do that quest as many times you want at any lvl; collect curst hearts; 10 hearts for 1 skill edit potion). Or, you can buy skill edit potions (28 silk for 5) from the item mall.

What he is trying to say is...
You level slower as your gap increases because you gain little Xp, and your (example) lvl 32 sos weapon doesnt help much when you are over lvl 39.
He is suggesting raising 1 of your masteries, not your skills so you level with a zero gap to your next weapon, in this case a Sos lvl 42. When you reach 42 you do the cursed hearts quest to lower your masteries back down to a 9 lvl gap. Since you didnt raise your skills just 1 mastery it is affordable, to cursed heart.
This only works if you have a good weapon waiting for you. It is always most efficient to Sp farm with a new weapon, and this method gets you to that new weapon much faster.
You cant get the curst hearts quest until lvl 20, so it is uselees for farming at lvl 16 at the den.
Since you are new and probably cant afford an sos bow, than I would recomend just leveling with a gap that gives you enough sp for your build and then when you saved up enough money to buy a good weapon do what was suggested.
Also many nukers don't farm until 42 when they have there nukes + a new weapon.
EDIT* how the hell do you have a SOM+4 bow

,errr wish I had one. Well Ill leave what I said for the poor folks.

Hmm... question:
IF you dlvl, then what happens to your skillz? They will be the same(so at lvl32 you have lvl 36skill), or you lose thos skills? Or gaind back the sp in these skills invested?
O.o

whats the point of deleveling though ? Why can't I just continue leveling up and try to maintain the gap ?

so,they get it all over at one time and are able to 0 gap with all the skills they want(this is when u brag and laugh at noobs who didnt farm

)
also GT is good for farming--twice as fast
EDIT:oops, well just maintain the nine gap until u have as many as you want? first because once your fighting the stronger monsters and your weapon wont be as good and 2 bandit archers are preferred because of their spawn rate !

u can still use (not sure - need concrete prove) all lvl 36 skills (u already invested) while u de-lvl back to 32.. if u use curse heart potion u'll gain 80% SP of each skill and 100% SP if u use Item Mall reskill potions.. u will loose all skills at lvl 36 if u de-lvl ur skills while u r lvl 32.. the point of de-lvl is for farming.. wat the point u de-lvl (char de-lvl and skill de-lvl) while u not farming? IMO

I beleive that your lvl 36 skills will stay with you when you dlvl to to 32, and you will lvl from 32 to 36 with a zero gap.
*Not sure why you would want to do this.*
The point is you use cursed hearts to lower your skills so you have a 9 gap when you reach 32.
If you are trying to farm Please re-read my earlier post because you arent understanding.

You can just maintain a gap. Many people just play the game with a 3 or 4 lvl gap. What will most likely happen is that the farmed people will start passing the gapped people around lvl 50, and will reach the cap first.
You dlvl because when you are farming you pick a specific mob that you can kill fast and has a high spawn rate(reducing running time). People choose the bandit den because it has the highest spawn rate in the entire game and with a lvl 16 sos you can 2 hit them, even with a 9 gap. If you lvl however you loose sp per kill because the mob is lower than you, reducing your efficiency. So thats why people dlvl back to lvl 16.

Ah well that makes much more sense, thanks.
