yeah i know... im going to sound like a total noob but....how the hell do i farm? what is it for? why should i do it? and wtf is all this im hearing about level gaps?

Farming is when you purposely keep a gap between your highest skill mastery and your actual character level. The point of this is so that when you kill a monster, you get a greater percentage of skill experience than experience for leveling up your character. A gap of 9 is the cap for the most skill experience you can get, but Ive read that some people don't recommend using the entire 9 lvl gap, but rather a 3 lvl gap, so that you get a decent amount of both skill and lvl experience, and farming doesnt feel like a job the whole time. Read the post "[Guide] Masteries, SP Farming, and what it all means", he explains it a lot better than I do. In the last post or few, I posted a link to an sp calculator, it can tell you how much sp you'll need to farm for what skills and masteries you want.
